Looking forward to becoming a success story

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am a newbie to the site and basically looking for some support on my journey to becoming a healthier person. I am a 33 year old male ready to make a serious change. I have been heavy since I was a little child . During my high school years I was able to build some serious muscle and lose a bunch of weight but as soon as the dieting and weight lifting stopped I would gain everything back and some. Weight loss has been a never ending battle for me. I have tried many diets like the Atkins, South Beach diet,The Zone, and many others with some pretty good success but it was short lived success because I would just gain back what I loss and some. I will be going to my pre-op surgery on 6/24/08 and hopefully will be banded early July. I look forward to meeting new friends who are fighting the same battle that I am. Best wishes to everyone on their journeys to weightloss success. :tongue2:

Welcome, welcome, welcome.....

I am here to tell you this is the place I come to for support and advice....there is a phenominal (sp?) amount of knowledge here and experience. Good luck on your weight loss journey. Your story sounds exactly like mine and many others here......we had success with dieting....but no long term success. This is the first time in my life (and I am 46 years old) that I have ever kept my weight down. I have struggled my entire life with my weight until now. I love my life now. Keep us posted on your journey and we are here for you.

Welcome! I want to wish you the best of luck on your WLS journey. You have come to the right place for support and encouragement. I am 9 months post-op and can't even begin to count the times that I have turned to lapbandtalk with a question or a concern ( no matter how silly it was). Know that the people in this "community" are always here for you and willing to help in anyway that they can. Good luck and keep us posted!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
