about a week ago I went to have my upper GI done. The Dr. found a bit of bactria in ny stomach:sad: So she put me on meds.I have to take 4 pills in the morning and 4 pills at nite for 14 days, and it's making me so sick. It's 1 prevacid 1 Biaxin and 2 amoxicillin.I've been on them for 4 days now (10 days to go)After the meds are done, it's back to her office and so I can blow in a tube to see if all the bactria is gone.

Has anyone eles have to do the same thing? Is so did it make you ill?

Thanks for reading

Olga

hi!

I am sorry they found that bacteria.. but it will be for the best. I had to do the same tests actually. I blew into two test tubes. Then they gave me something to drink (?) and I had to blow into two more 30 mins later. Thankfully mine were negative..

It must be really frustrating for you but I hope you feel much better soon so you can continue on your journey.

best of luck to you!

Kizzie

I also had an upper GI, way back in October, before I even considered the lap band, I also had H-Pylori, it is a bacteria on the lining of the stomach that causes ulcers, and I also had to take the Prev pack. It is not real common to have it, I have never known anyone that had it other than myself, and now you. I was banded on May 20th, and also a hernia repair, I didn't know I had a hernia prior to the surgery. But what I have had was horrible acid reflux for the past several yrs, sometimes I thought I was having a heart attack it was so bad. Since the repair, I haven't had one episode of reflux.

One thing I have noticed is it seems more than not, that lapband pts wake up to find that they had a hernia. My MD actually took pics and brought them out to show my husband. I guess they have to for insurance purposes, if they fix it, they have to be able to prove it existed to begin with.

I too was diagnosed with H-Pylori. I found out that I had it because my stomach just stayed really acidy feeling all the time. So my primary put me on the treatment for it. I don't remember it making me sick though. It will get better soon, but if it is too bad I would call your dr. just to let them know the meds are making you sick. Good luck to you with everything on your journey.

Hi, this is bjane. I too had the H-Pylori diagnosed when I had pre op work done. I had to take the Prevacid, Biaxin and amoxicillin and it was a long two weeks. I stuck it out though with following each dose with a cup of yogurt (my daughter is a pharmacist and gave me that tip). After that was over, I found out the they found a big gallstone and I had to have gallbladder surgery. BUT--I did that too and as of one week ago, I had my lapband done and it was what I expected. Lots of gas, discomfort, but I am determined to go forward. I go to the doctor today for post op and I pray they let me start full liquid: this Clear Liquids is getting to me. Hang in there girls with all the preop. When we're thinner, it will all be worth it.

They checked me before surgery for the same thing. It's called H Pylori bacteria, it can cause ulcers. Be glad you are getting rid of this before you have your band.

Wishing you the best.

This is Pam92. I am sure you are right and all the stuff we are going through now will be worth it, but it is nice to hear it from someone else that has had issues!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
