Finally start eating something after lap band? Im a day out, havent been nauseated, and have had sugar free pudding, and I think I cheated I had some grilled cheese, maybe like a quarter of a sandwich, and still it hasnt hurt me. But Im also drinking with it too. So that it wont get stuck. I know I need to not eat solids cause I can hurt myself, but when can you eat solids, and not really hurt yourself?

2 weeks liquids

2 weeks mushies

then SLOWLY add foods... softer ones to start....

No bread Pasta or rice

Every doctor is different... these were my instructions...

What has your doctor told you to do...? I would follow what he/she says and not push the limits....I would hate for you to do damage to your new pouch and healing stomach.....

You should follow your doctor's instructions, and do not advance your diet. Your stomach must heal, and if you're digesting food, it's not healing properly. I was on full liquids for 2 weeks, then 1 week of pureed foods, 1 week of soft foods, and then I was allowed to slowly introduce solid foods. I was told that if you advance your diet too quickly, you risk not tolerating a lot of food later down the road. It was hard not to eat, and I couldn't wait for some cottage cheese in the pureed stage. There is a list of suggested foods on this site if it helps.

Take it easy, you'll get through this healing period and be on your way!

Thank you for your advice, it is hard. I made it through the first 2 weeks, I will make it through the whole thing. I cant believe I cheated, and I cheated myself. And a day post op. Uggh. I feel so bad now. Not sick or anything just tremendous guilt. Im not going to do it again. Thank you for your advice again.

hi, well a day after surg you shouldnt try to eat any thing solid!!!! Very dangerous. when you start to heal, you will become very hungry. Your stomach will be talkin!!!! But you should do liquids at least for the 1st week. Be safe!!! Protein Shakes are the best. Yogurts, maybe the end of the week. You have to really try to follow your instructions. I had a grilled cheese about 1.5 wks out. And I dipped it in my Soup. But i could have really screwed things up. My Dr. told me a horror story of someone getting it lodged in the esophogus and that he had to have emergency surgery and they couldnt get it out. So they used enzymes as a last resort. Very painful and scarey!! So dont rush it.. lol.I was so freaked after that I didnt eat solids for sometime. bread is the enemy!!!! Be careful....

Not to be mean, but you need to follow your dr's diet. The reason you only drink fluids for 1-2 weeks after surgery is to let your stomach heal and not have it work to digest solid food. Your band has been attached to your stomach with stitches and those stitches need to "set" so your band will stay in the correct position.

When you eat solids, they may not "hurt" you, but your stomach is working away to digest those solids and could be dislodging the position of the band. You could cause yourself a slip.

Don't feel bad about yourself, but please think about why you got banded and all the effort you went through to get here. Is it worth a slip right from the get go over a tiny bit of solid food?

I am surprised that your clinic did not provide you with the information to be successful in this journey.

Even if your surgery was something else like gall bladder, you need to give your stomach time to heal. You will notice things are not the same. You will hear strange rumblings, cramps, and your bowels may be different. Give everything time to properly heal. This is an expensive proceedure that you don't want to mess up. Good luck! Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
