Would anyone know?? Birth Control pills !!!!

Recommended Posts

I was just banded on the 6th of June and know my doctor is stating that all of my pills taken before hand must be crushed. Well I am on birth contol pills for period assistance. Does anyone know the effect of crushing birth control pills??? Do they remain effective?? The reason why I am asking is 2 fold - 1) Since my surgery, I have begin spotting very light, but am not scheduled to begin my period for a few weeks. Does that have to do with the crushing or just because of the surgery??? and 2) I went throught ferility issues and was told I had policystic ovaries - I know with the drastic weight loss, there is a possibility that I could get pregant!! I would love that thought, but I would like that to happen after a year or maybe 2. One hurdle at a time, and right now - my goal is to get to my goal weight....

Any answers would be greatly appreciated,

Jessica:eek:

I am on orthocyclen and crushed my pills until I got onto mushie foods and I didn't have any problems. I would call your primary care physician OR your local planned parenthood. They would both be able to assist you.

Should be no problem in crushing the pills. Usually only extended release pills can't be crushed.

I was told that it was not an extended release pill like many of you stated. However, why would I be starting my cycle again? That does not make any sense.... I am not scheduled to start until the end of the month.. Since this is my first surgery, think that it could be the trama that my body went through???

My doctor had instructed me not to take my birth control 6 weeks before and 6 weeks after. You should probably call your doctor to double check.

It can be caused from stress of the surgery. I know that a lot of people who had plastic surgery had issues with hormone levels going crazy. You may just want to take extra precautions.

I am all for listening to what your doctors say... My doctor never made me quit my pills (For period issues) nor did I have to crush them and all went well.

Estrogen is stored in adipose tissue - if you've lost a large amount of weight already, this could have something to do with a whacky cycle. I'd definitely use a different form of BC (like condoms perhaps), and contact your doctor just to be sure things are ok.

I am also on bc pills. About a week after surgery, same thing happened. I was afraid my pills were ineffective and was beginning a panic. I asked the nurse and she said it was from the trauma of sugery. Since then, I have no problems!

Indeed, just check with YOUR doctor and follow their advice, they are the one that knows you.

I had to start taking the birth control pill ON THE DAY of my surgery, with the first Water I drank after I came out from anaesthesia. Doctor's orders. So just listen to your doc, they know best!

My surgeon had me stop taking my birth control pill 4 weeks before my surgery as well. I ended up getting a period two weeks after my last one and my GYN told me it was because I had abruptly stopped my pills. I am waiting to start them again when I get my next period. I have no trouble swallowing my pills since they are so small.

I take Yaz and my doc said there was no problem continuing to take them before or after surgery. And I was instructed to swallow my pills whole after surgery just like before. That may change after I start getting fills, but my BC pill is so small I can't even tell I'm swallowing anything anyway.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
