Trust me you will "Thank" yourself if you learn how to chew your food prior to the procedure. It takes practice and it's best to learn before you have the band than when you have it and you are forced to chew to liquid. Keep up the good work you are going to do great!!

I personally don't have a problem with salads but some bandsters do. It just depends on the individual.

PAPAYA ENZYME is a great digestive chewable tablet that helps with dealing with EARL. You can get them at the GNC store and they were recommended by my surgeon. I chewed three of them and immediatley the pain was leaving. I thought I was having a heart attack. Try it they are inexspensive $2.99 for 90 tablets. You will be glad to keep them with you everywhere you go. One for the car, office and home.

"I thought maybe I could perform surgery on myself and remove the band, the longer the episode lasted the more crazy my thought process became."

Yes I too have had THIS thought lol. I was able to calm myself down and settle on having the "damn thing removed tomorrow". I lived through it and no did not have it removed (Thank God on both accounts lol)

Thank-You for sharing :frown: makes the rest of us feel like we are not alone when we have issues such as this!

does it really hurt that bad???? >.> kind of discouraging thought lol

I haven't had surgery yet, but my Dr. office gave me the following advice. if food sticks try a teaspoon of meat tenderizer in a glass of warm Water sipped slowly. Does that work?

If you ever reach the point I reached you will try anything. I personally have never used that method but I'm sure it works.

Oh my! I am being banded on 5/08/09. I am such a speedy eater, years of being a wiatress (many moons ago) I can scarf down a meal in 5 mins. or less. I know I have to slow down and I am trying. I'm so afraid of Earl! Lord I have to slow down! I even drink fast! I'm in trouble I think. Well wish me luck and say a prayer, I will need it all! Good luck to all here. thanks for the wonderful posts, they really do help...Betz:eek:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
