Hi everyone. I was scheduled for surgery June 2. I was in the operating room and fell sound asleep. When I woke up I found out some news, my surgeon found multiple cysts on my liver and there was a big one right by where the band was suppose to be placed, so she did not feel comfortable placing the band before she did a biopsy of a few of the cysts. What a disapointment! Right after that I decided it was a "sign" that I should not have the surgery. It has been a week ago today, my biopsies came back inconclusive and they were sent to another place for a second opinion. I have started eating all over again, whatever I wanted. I have an appointment to see my surgeon on Thursday and am now planning on rescheduling my surgery. I was just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them?????? Any guidance, advice???? anything?????

Wow, I'm very sorry this happened to you. Its a great thing that you had the surgery though, because otherwise you may not have found out about the cysts until it was too late. I hope that the news is good for you. I dont think that you should look at this as a sign that you shouldnt have the surgery. Go forward with it, the best thing for your liver will be to lose weight....and for the rest of your body too!

Hi there~

My surgeon also found cysts on my liver (I still have them and need to get them removed). I believe that there were 4, he said they were most likely from birth control pills or from phentermine. He also said the are usually 99% benign, so not to worry.

I went ahead and had the band placed (12/12) and have done and felt great!

Good luck to you!

Brandy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
