Hi, everyone.

I had my surgery on June 4th. It wasn't too bad - pretty much what I expected although I do admit that it has been more painful than anticipated.

It is Day 6 and my body is not so sure what it is suppose to do. Sometimes I get the growling in the gut and other times I feel the tightness (uncomfortableness) at the top of the stomach. Basically, the only thing I've decided to do is to stop drinking or eating for a bit and then it does go away fairly quickly. As a bit of a "test" this morning I tried a little bit of a scrambled egg. Tomorrow it will be okay to move to soft foods. The funny thing was that I had about forgotten how to eat. I've been on liquids for so long ... I choked my first solid food into my wind pipe - coughing, coughing, etc. May try a different solid food tomorrow - ha. All things in time I guess.

I have a great doctor and bariatric facility here in the Kansas City area. They do such good work - I had no gas from the surgery or pain, etc. I have my post operative appointment on Wednesday to get the stitches out. My stomach feels like I have insects

crawling all over it and then there is the itching.

I'm in a pretty good mood about it all. I think it may be because there was quite a bit of dieting before the surgery. I don't know if I've lost anything - I still feel swelled.

Anyway, it is good to find others that have been through this experience.

Kerry :tongue2:

Hi! This is bjane and I had my lapband on June 5 and I'm on Clear Liquids. Jello and Water and apple juice. I've had lots of gas but overall I'm doing pretty well. I'll see my surgeon on Thursday for 1 week post op appt and I'm looking forward to adding to my food lists. I've lots of rumbling in my stomach and mild discomfort but I'm excited to get going with the weight loss. I lost 14 lbs preop and I'm going to wait and see what the drs scale says on Thursday. I feel like I'm swollen right now and will glad to say goodby to that. Please let me hear from you who may be at the same stage as me. It sure helps to have support from here (hubby is very supportive, but he's not doing this).

Hi Kansascase and Bjane...

Good to hear from you guys! I was banded on June 5th and it sounds like we are all in about the same state of recovery. We are all also about the same age - so that's a good barometer!

My biggest problem is that I still have trouble sleeping at night because I can't get on my side. But every night gets a bit easier. I only take my vicodin at night (since Saturday).

Me post-op followup is Wednesday but I can't add creamed food until Friday - and I am READY!!

Let's all stay online and keep each other updated.

The best surgeon I found was Dr. Stanley Hoehn. He developed the Bariatric Center of Kansas City. The center has an excellence rating in bariatric centers. His office is at the Georgetown Medical Building which is on the campus of the Shawnee Mission Medical Center. His phone number is 913-677-2508.

You can actually see him and maybe the surgery online. They ususally show the Roen-Y gastric bypass. I've heard that he will start doing some kind of grastic sleeve. Address is www.kcbariatric.com.

Anyway, he is the best in surgery. His office is the best for support.

Lots of luck - it takes so long to get through all the paperwork and classes - dieticians, psychologists, preop, postop, etc. My insurance company approved my surgery in three days - some insurances really put people through it.

Will be looking for you online. sleeping on your side is a killer! I've been on my back since the surgery.

I've tried just a wee bit of soft foods - mashed potatoes - so good and no problem digesting them - I just have to remember to slow down and eat small amounts. Tomorrow I officially go on soft foods and Vitamins - yeah.

Will be watching for you online.

Kerry

Yes, they sent me home with about a pint of vicodin - helps a lot - especially with sleeping. In fact, talked to the doctor's office for a wee bit more. I've gotten a lot of rest. Guess I am just a chicken when it comes to pain. I don't want this experience to become a "bad" experience in my memory.

Good luck, Kansascase. My recovery was 13 hours dry heaving from the anasthesia. But after that, its going well. I had my surgery on May 29th. I have dropped about 17 lbs since surgery day. I lose about 2 pounds a day, more if I walk. I do a half mile in the morning and half a mile in the evenings.

Keep us posted!

thank you for the info!!! I will have my lapband surgery before we move, but I am going to need some one once we get settled and word of mouth is always more effective for me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
