Do You Feel Sick After A Fill

Recommended Posts

I am getting my first fill on Friday. I have plans that night to go out to the movies, dinner and dancing with the girls afterwards. They all know I have had the band. I'm wondering if people tend to feel sick after a fill, and I should bow out of my plans, or if I am careful with my eating should I feel OK. I appreciate the feedback.

My Dr. has strict instructions: Clear Liquids for 24 hrs, full liquids for 24 hrs, soft foods for 24 hrs, then back to regular diet if you feel up to it. So, to answer your question, no, I don't really feel sick after a fill, but dinner might not be much fun if you can only have liquids.

you'll feel fine but most doctor's have you on a liquid diet for a few days after a fill.

i'm on clear liquids the first day, full liquids the second day, mushies the third day and regular food on the 4th day.

Other than being on liquids (which include creamed soups) it isn't a big deal at all.... I had plans for the entire wknd after my fill and just had to order Soup and keep things light...

It's really hard to say as everyone is different. I just always feel really bloated and gassy for a couple of days. I feel pretty good when I leave, but as the day goes on I start to feel a little uncomfortable. It doesn't keep me from doing things, I just don't feel very well. I feel really bloated and kind of achy. Of course I can't do anything but liquids for that day and I usually can't resume mushies until the 3rd day. Most people say they don't have any trouble at all, so chances are you'll do just fine. I guess I'm just one of the weird ones!

Again, each of us reacts differently with the band...some experience reflux; others don't. Some lucky peeps get great restriction after only one fill and other poor souls like myself are still struggling after seven fills.

I typically never feel anything after a fill and I'm always on liquids for one day, then back to regular food as tolerable thereafter. Technically, I'm supposed to be on liquids for two days; mushies for two days, then back to normal foods as tolerable.

I, too, am one of the ones who gets gassy and bloated. I am glad to see someone else does too!! I thought I was just a weirdo. It is not so much painful as it is annoying. I used to get really really bad gas the night of a fill and be in severe pain, but that hasn't happend for a while. I guess everyone is different.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
