its because the Fluid will wash the food out of the pouch into the larger part of the stomach. And with no food in the pouch, you wll be hungry again in no time.

I do want to add that early in my banding I could feel something getting stuck--and normally (pre-Banding) you would wash it down, right? Oh NO, not after banding!! It just got stuck much worse and I thought I was going to die!!

When you stop to think that the stoma (opening between the pouch and our old tummy) is the "size of a straw" (as my surgeon said), it would be easy to push something down with liquid and have it become trapped.

Y'know, I find that 30 minutes before and 45 minutes after is NOT that long--so it's better to just play it safe...

Hi Karen,

My name is Karen also. I have been told not to drink anything 20 minutes before a meal and 1 hour after a meal. liquids are filling. In order to stay and feel full after a meal you should not drink anything 1 hour afterwards. However, I find it difficult to eat and not sip once in a while to rinse or wash some to the food down.

When you have good restriction it becomes difficult to eat and drink at the same time. Well at least that's what happens to me. If I drink when I am eating I get stuck and that's not fun.

Regards,

Alfie

PS Bye the way, we're neighbors. I live in Richmond Hill

You may be right about that too. I am having a terrible time eating anything right now. It seems like everthing I eat comes right back up. As a result I am drinking more liquids and eating less.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
