When do you stop drinking when you eat?

Recommended Posts

I know for the liquid phase everything is liquid so it doesnt' matter. However, are you suppose to do the no drinking with meals when you start the mushy stage? Thanks!

I did the no drinking thing even in the liquid stage. I had my meals (which yes were liquid but usually thicker...like a Protein shake or soup) and then I would wait the 1 hour to drink my Water.

For the mushy stage I would definetly start to the no eating and drinking thing. This is one of the hardest things for most people and it is good to start getting into the habit. Also, I think it will help with the hunger. It will keep the mushies in the top part of your stomach for longer.

If at all in doubt, contact your doctor or your nutritionist. This is just what I did.

U know this was one of the pains in my side... I was so use to drinking while eating.. and I have a 3-yr old soon to be 4 June 25th:thumbup:I would always tell him Todd stop drinking while u are eating, because this gives u a false since of being full... Of course I was still doing it and he asked me mommy why are u drinking and I can't... This could have been one of the moments where the parent says well because I said so...:)..Or hey baby u are right....:).. and that's what I said.. I shouldn't drink while I am eating and since I have stopped he has started eating all of his food and he will drink later.. he is not focused on drinking at all.. which makes me so happy because he was a really pickey eater :).. which made me feel in many ways like i wasent doing something right.. but now I know I wasent.. I was contradicting myself and that was confusing to him... to make my long azz story shorter... I drink about 30-60- minutes after i have eaten...:)

It is so true...drinking during a meal will make your food empty quicker...banded or not. I know someone who is not banded but was constantly saying that within 20 minutes of eating she seemed to be hungry again. I asked her how much she was drinking with her meal and she said "a lot" it is supposed to fill you up quicker. I told her to try that with veggies instead and cut the water/drink out before and after a meal. Guess what...she said it made a huge difference!

That Is Going To Be My Hardest Thing, I Drink With Every Meal ( June 11) Will Be Banded. I Also Thought If You Drink You Will Eat Less Cause Your Will Fill Up On Water. Thanks For The Info, I Am A Big Drinker, So I Will Get That In For 2 Wks. Of liquids Only...then Not 30 Min. Before Or After.

+Drinking before does not affect me, drinking in less than 30 minutes after I eat will cause me to vomit. It is a hrad habit to break. When we go out to dinner I do not order a drink, it would be a waste.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
