insulin pumpers HELP Please

Recommended Posts

I was banded June of 07

I am a type one diabetic with the pump I have had the pump for 13 years

Seince my surgery I have lost 100 lbs and my skin is loose and it hangs there.

My needle keeps coming out or bending to like a z shape

I think it is because of teh extra skin I have I have tried everything I can think of. The tape will not stick very good again I think it is because of the loose skin. I do use the skin prep.

Changed spots went above my belly button and nothing seems to help

I am changing daily because I get 400+ counts :confused2:I am so sick from this I have spoken to my weight loss doc and minimed and my pcp and noone knows what to do I have to find a new diabetic doc my old retired :incazzato:

I just put in a new needle on the top part of my behind to see if that will work

Any ideas I need help

Thnaks

Hi there! My son is a pumper. Maybe you will need to change to a different kind of infusion set. What kind do you use? We had to change his because he was too skinny! The tubing kept bending.

I would not be considered "skinny" But that may be the same gerenal idea that the needle part keeps bending because of the extra flap that i have.

I use the sof set ultimate QR 9mm

When I was pregnant 7 years ago I did have to get the 6mm

Maybe that is teh problem.

Thanks fopr the thought

Hi! I am too also insulin dependent type one! And I am too an insulin pump user for 6 years. I have had diabetes for 20 years. I was banded 6 weeks ago. Right now because of my extra weight the best place to put my pump site is on the top of my rear. It holds there best. The stomach is getting harder and harder to use. You can also use your the top part of your leg area? Let me know if you discover anything else. Also, I'll ask my endo as well. Maybe together we can come up with something.

thank you I am sorry I have not gotten back to you I have been extremely busy

My new diabetic doc put me on a new site and the 6mm size instead of the 9

So far it seems to be doing well

I am also putting the site like on my upper back side area

I wounder if insurance would cover to get some of the loose shin removed off my stomack so I could put my needle there again?

Once things settle down I may look into that

I still want to lose like 35lbs so maybe I should wait untill I am at my goal

Thank yuo everyone

Butterfly I woudl like to stay in touch I am just busy right now I will PM you later and go ahead and PM me if you would like

Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
