re-introduction

Recommended Posts

Had some problems with my account and could not post anything to these boards...Had to re-register with a new user name. I was "bandgirl" and will go back to using that if the administrator can fix the problem. Had my first post-op support group tonight...it was nice to meet you Tasha!!! It's great to see other people succeeding with the band! I can't wait to get a fill...right now I am having to rely way to much on my willpower to keep my portions small and make the right food choices. Obviously if I had great willpower I would not have needed the band in the first place! I am feeling no restriction what-so-ever. I feel like I could eat anything and everything, but somehow I am keeping to three 6 oz mushy (low cal and low fat) meals a day. I am eating less than 500 calories a day on average. Not sure how long I can keep this up without more restriction. I know the first six weeks are about healing more than losing, but I just really want to be a loser NOW!!! I am not a very patient person.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Dear Bandgal,

Why are you only eating 500 calories a day? That is not enough food or calories. Before I had a fill, I was able to eat 8-10 ounces of food. As long as it is healthy food, you should eat until you are feeling comfortable, no longer hungry yet not stuffed. Don't torture yourself on 500 calories. As you get hungrier and hungrier which is normal about 2-3 weeks out, you have to provide your body with enough nutrition and Protein until you get that fill.

Hang in there!!

Dear Bandgal,

Could it be that your system has gone into "starvation mode?" I have heard that when you eat so little, your body hangs on to what it has in storage. Just a thought..........

Hey New BandGAL!

I'm glad you introduced yourself last night. I really enjoyed the meeting! After hearing people's comments and reading the info Vivienne passed out, I'm going to wait for my fill. Before the meeting I felt like I was able to eat too much and I would just stop before I got too full. Now I have decided to wait, because I am still losing weight and I really don't feel hungry and I can't eat too quickly, cause that hurts. I did learn that everyone is different though. My friend was banded 6/25 and is wanting her 3rd fill.

I'm going to try the new diet of Daily Menu Choices and see how that goes. My next appt. is a week from today and I'll talk to Dr. Alldredge and see what he says.

I would start eating more if I were you. Try to get full and stay full for a couple of hours. Like I said last night, spaghetti through the baby food grinder was excellent and it seemed to fill me up. I got really full on chicken salad too. Good Luck and Keep in touch!

Tash:D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
