I was only on clear liquids two days before surgery. I would NOT take a laxative. Calm down, call your doctor's office tomorrow morning and "confess your sins", I really doubt it will make a difference...just don't do it again! LOL!

I had to be on a shake only diet for two weeks before surgery. I was sooo hungry that I felt dizzy and upset stomach all the time. Well 4 days before surgery I was at my mothers house and she made me eat an egg and piece of toast because of how I felt. So it started the joke that they would go in there and find "the egg". Everything went great. Nothing was ever "found" or "said". The whole purpose of the pre diet is to help you lose weight and shrink your liver. So, if you had some food you should be fine. A friend of mine went to another doctor and he didnt even havde a pre op diet. He just couldnt eat anything midnight before the surgery. So every doc is diff. I think mine was extreme. But you should be fine. Good luck!!!!

Do not take any laxatives, honey!! As my doc explained to me, the all-liquid diet is not to torture you. It is to shrink the size of your liver. Obese people have large livers, due to the fat content of our bodies. It is extremely crucial that they reduce the size of it because they need to slightly maneuver it to place your band. If they cannot safely get around it, they will probably just stop the surgery and postpone your date. Depending on what and how much you ate, and when you ate it--it will probably determine how much of a setback, if any, there will be. I would just tell your doc and see what he/she recommends.

Just remember--keep your eyes on the prize!! I was on my all-liquid regimen over Memorial holiday and had a friend I had not seen for 15 years in--talk about hard to avoid temptation!! Party, party, party is all that we did...but I stayed focused. You will too!!! Just have faith in yourself!!! Good luck!!

call your doctors office and tell them what you did so they can guide you. i had to be on clear liquids for 2 days before surgery. then the night before surgery at 6:00pm i was to drink citrate magnesium which is a laxative.

My Dr told me the other reason for a pre op liq diet, besides shrinking your liver, was to flatten your bowels to decrease the chance of perforation when he inserts the trocantor.

You should be fine. I had to do a 2 week diet of shakes and 2 small meals a day. A week before surgery I ate a half dozen Cookies that a student gave me as an end of year gift. Did not cause me any problems at all. I also had Starbucks Frappacino a couple of times the week before surgery and still was good. I'm not saying it is okay to do what I did, but get back on the horse and you will be okay.

I was on no special diet diet prior to surgery, just a light dinner the evening before and nothing by mouth after midnight. My surgery was completely uneventful and I was up walking around immediately after returning from recovery.

I disagree. If you can't get through one day of clear liquids, how are you going to make it through the next two days? And how about the stages that you have to go through after the surgery? The next couple of days will be a test. If you can't do it, then you are not ready for the surgery. This takes some committment on your part. I don't think anyone should pat your hand and tell you it is ok. You are putting yourself at risk. You need to have an empty stomach and empty colon going into surgery. It is not just to shrink the liver.

Sorry you feel that way But I know I am ready and everbody make mistakes!

V. true. Just vow to stick with it for Wednesday. Call your doc and make sure all is well. My doc did say I could have lean chicken and veg. for dinner but I need to have NOTHING but liquids the day before.

I am on the diet too and suffering a bit and have some set backs this weekend (birthday weekend) but am back on track and will be an angel this week. I have lost like 10 pounds though.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
