Fill And Trying Not To Freak Out

Recommended Posts

Okay guys...I've read a ton of fill threads so I apologize in advance for starting a new one.

Today I got my first fill...I was fully expecting to feel something...the fill person was very nice and had been recommended to me by others.

2 hits and missed the port completely (okay now I understand how that can happen). So we go to lay me down completley as opposed to a semi-lay thing and we find the port....no problem.

I go immediately to find something to eat (i'm starved) and figure out ho wmuch restriction I have...I was able to eat an entire ham and cheese omelette without a lot of chewing or fanfare...now this may not seem like a big deal except for the fact that not less than 2 days ago I was pb'ing because I tried to squeeae in oatmeal after 2 eggs. Today i can eat an entire omelette.

Where is the fill? I literally can feel things running out the stoma...this is not what I was anticipating and I am freaking out right now...I don't want to but I am. My first notion is to call back to Mexico to get a real fill...My second inclination is to go someplace and have a barium swallow and do it again but I just spent all this money for initial consultation and fill...

Please please please someone resond...I know I wasn't suppose to have restriction initially but I did have some and thought perhaps I was suppose to have more...can you unrestrict a band with no fill? What can cause a loosening of restriction immediately AFTER a fill?

Gypj

My first fill took about a week to kick in ..others have said the same thing. Give it a couple more days.

I was never told to eat right afer a fill, I have always had to do liquids for 3 daysafter a fill. How much of a fill did you get?

.8 because she said I already had some restriction and she didn't want me to have problems. I don't get it..I've lost the restriction I've already had? I only tried the eggs to see how much additional restriction I had...I don't understand this...maybe I should have left well enough alone and went with the restriction?

gypj,

All I can tell you is hang in there. I had good restriction and felt that I just needed a "tweak" fill. I was filled by my surgeon while I was in Mexico with a couple of friends that were having lapband surgery and I lost all my restriction. As you can see by long fill list, I've been fighting to get my restriction level back. It's coming back slowly, but it's still not where I would like it to be.

Will your doctor (that just filled you) give you another adjustment in a week or two free of charge if you need it? If you don't know, it might be worth calling their office to ask.

Wow, you can eat an entire ham and cheese omelette right after a fill, Wow again, I am stunned. I can't even eat that 1 1/2 months after my fill. I can eat about 1/2 to a 1/3 cup of food and that's it. Don't rush into getting more fill, give it a couple of days to see how your body reacts to this one. I'm really astonished, after a fill it is recommended that you do liquids for at least three days. I never get my fill done in a semi-sitting position, its done while I'm laying down (fantasising about my good looking DR, LOL), then he makes me sit down, so that we can make sure I can drink and don't have much restriction. Wonder why yours was done sitting down? Well I hope you get the restriction you need, but don't get discouraged my first fill did nothing for me, neither did the second and boy did I feel the third one, actually its just now starting to losen up and feel good. My advice to you would be to go ahead and notify your Dr's office (some drs won't charge for another fill if that one didn't work and you let them know right away) so they know what's going on, then give it to the beginning of next week and reassess yourself then, and then maybe schedule another fill. Well good luck, but these fills are tricky business, so don't get discouraged.

No she charges 175 everytime...which I'm willing to pay if she will put me back but she only normally does 1 cc at a time and since i'm at .8 and she will probalby not even give me 2 cc's and she talks about having to unfill people all the time...i'm ready to hop in a plane and to to MX just to get a true fill...what a bummer!!!

What a bummer that you have to pay everytime, my Dr doesn't do that, but then again he charges $300 for the fill, so good luck and hope you get to your sweet spot.

I think Vera was telling me that her person does barium and is somewhere like Utah...maybe i'll get his information and see about an additional fill.

Believe me I Know how you feel, its sometimes discouraging how much work it takes to get these fills just right. But don't get discouraged, you might wake up tomorrow and have tons of restriction, good luck.

Gypj, I agree with everyone else who says you SHOULD NOT be eating solid foods on the same day as a fill. Please take another day on liquids to really let your stomach get used to the added pressure.

Here's my thinking. Your stomach is itself a flexible thing. When the fill is put in and the band tightened, it's possible that the stomach tissue itself reacts by thinning out. In time, the stomach wall relaxes, and added restriction is the result. Many people report feeling like a fill "didn't work" only to come back in a couple of days and say "OH! There it is!" I know all of my fills sort of kicked in after two or three weeks.

Please don't get discouraged or worried, and don't rush to get another fill too soon. That could lead to problems. Give it at least two weeks bfore you consider going for more. Your body may surprise you!

Gypj,

just for a piece of mind, is there any place you can get a barium swallow to check the functions of the band? This may be cheaper physically AND mentally before heading to Mexico.

I literally can feel things running out the stoma

please explain this a little more...

Youre scareing me girl!

Everyone's got lots of good info here Meshawn. Please do relax and wait to see if this fill kicks in.

Paula, I think what she's feeling is that the food isn't sitting in the pouch.

Write me anytime

I just had my first fill on Monday +1.75cc, yesterday was a nightmare for me. I was already on soft foods and OMG, I was vomiting unbeliveable and pbing for 4 hours, I felt my esphogas contracting. I called the doctor this morning and he saw me right away and removed -.25cc's. I am back on full liquids for 3 days and puree's for another 3. Had tea this morning and 4 oz Protein drink, lunch 8 oz thin milkshake through out the day, and now came home tried some Soup and vomit. I am still took tight I hope this gets better....

Corgi.

Vera is right...no holes, just no restriction anymore...I was comfy with my restriction and okay with the notion of no chicken or been and chewing...now I am back at square one again with absolutely no restriciton. I'm giving great thought to going back to diet pills until I can get this thing fixed...I'm not a happy camper

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
