I have one week down on the pre-op diet. I'm to have 1 Protein Shake for Breakfast, 1 for lunch and then a diet frozen meal for dinner. While during the week I did fine, but being home where the food is, I'm grabbing Snacks from time to time. I don't like the frozen diet dinners so I've been eating a salad with grilled chicken for dinner. I have only lost a couple of pounds. How much weight does the doctor need for you to loose before he can do surgery? I had my gallbladder out 2 years ago so I think that will free up some room in there too. This is very hard not eating when everyone else is. Did anyone else struggle with the pre-op liquid diet? If so how did you get over the cravings to eat something? The Protein Shakes fill me up for the most part, but I need to be able to chew something up and swallow it..:incazzato:

Help!

My liquid diet was shake for breakfast, shake for lunch, and vegetables for dinner, as many vegetables as I wanted. The vegetables gave me the chewing/crunching I was looking for.

I am surprised that a doc would recommend a frozen dinner, since usually the cardboard wrapper contains more nutrition than the dinner, and they are full of sodium.

Try a huge plate of cooked and uncooked veg, and skip the frozen dinner and/or the chicken breast.

My pre-op diet is nothing but Optifast for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It really has sucked, I have definately missed chewing and eating food but you have to remember theres a huge awesome goal at the end. A new journey to be smaller and healthier. Good Luck

My liquid diet was also Optifast, but the doc gave the option of having veggies instead of the dinner Optifast. Never in my whole life did I look so forward to a plate of zucchini and mushrooms.

Only shakes is tough, but the rewards are going to be sooooo fabulous. Nice thing about shakes is less time cooking and no dishes!

I an few weeks the optifast phase is going to be a distant and fond memory

My preop diet is a week of full liquids. It has to be 60-70g of Protein but only 800-1000 calories. And 64 oz of water! I'm spending all my time in the bathroom!:incazzato:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
