No more Acid Reflux???

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering how many of you out there no longer have acid reflux? I have been taking medicine for reflux since I was 24, and I am hopeful I can finally ditch the meds.

My surgeon corrected my hiatal hernia while she operated on me and I no longer have any acid reflux. If it wasn't for reading about acid reflux on LBT I'd totally forget that it was a major annoyance in my life before the lap band surgery.

I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia at 16, and started heartburn meds that day for severe acid reflux.

During surgery my Doc decided not to do the hiatal hernia repair, as he said the size wasn't concerning. I was really worried about the heartburn coming back, but it never did? Since 4 days after surgery I have not taken my meds, and have not had any issues.

That's my story..

I was taking Tums or Rolaids anywhere from 2-4 times a day with a prescription before bedtime- still nothing really worked...

As soon as I had the surgery- it was GONE!

They say that if you DO get it again- it could be sign that you are having a problem with the band and you should contact your surgeon's office right away.

Congrats!!! And welcome to Heartburn Free World!!! LOL

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
