:sad:Hi

I was banded on the 4th of June and I am very miserable. My left shoulder and neck are very painful and I am sick of strained Soup already, my body is craving for something really tasty to eat. I think I have made a big mistake. Did anyone else feel like this?

Give it some time - you just had surgery 3 days ago! I had the neck and shoulder pain for about 7-10 days after surgery and it would lessen as each day passed. I had surgery in March and I've lost about 30 pounds since then - but what is the best is that I am out of the 'food fog' I had been living in for years! It was 100% worth it!:(

Oh yes. The first few weeks are rough. Your body wants food, but most of all your mind wants food. Real food that you can chew. Just have courage and strength and you can get through it. I was an emotional wreck without food and CRANKY like you would not believe but it passes and slowly a whole new you begins to emerge. Just be patient and drink your Protein Drinks, they help.

Hang in there! No matter what kind of surgery one has, the first several days are always the most difficult. Your body is not happy that you traumatized it and it's going to complain. Take it easy, hang in there, and it really will get better.

Jamba, there is a forum just for people who have been banded in June. It will help to go in a read other peoples experiences who have been banded around the same time you were...look further down on the lists of different discussion threads. I was banded on May 31st, and I was one of the lucky ones...I didn't have much pain at all, and no shoulder pain to speak of...Good luck to you!

It's normal to go into a bit of depression after any surgery, due to the stress on your body. You do need to ask yourself, do I really want to continue with an unhealthy body and an unhappy mind due to my obesity, just so I can have the pleasure of overeating, or do I want to take charge of my life, my health, and my body? In a few days you will be feeling better physically and mentally, and at that time that question won't be a hard one.

Jamba, my friend. Take heart, it will get better, I promise you, we all understand about how bland liquids can be, but it will all be worth it. Each day the pain will get better, just keep being active. remember Jello is a liquid as is sugar free popsicles, and they have lots of taste to them. Give those a try. Good Luck, I am so proud of you for taking this first step to a better you. For You and your loved ones.

I was banded on 5/27/08 and thankfully, I have little to no pain (with the exception of a little heartburn). Anywhoo, I am going through a doctor recommended, 21 day liquid diet (bandster hell). It seems as if I am always hungry (the hunger pains are ridiculous). I am saying that to say this. What you are feeling now is the after affects of the medications that they used during your surgery. IT WILL GO AWAY! The one thing that has gotten me through this phase is knowing that I have kickstarted the weightloss process. Since May 10 I have lost a total of 16lbs (in less than one month). While you are recovering, take a walk around the mall or buy a fashion magazine and keeping telling yourself I am on my way to a beautiful, healthy, sexy new me. Keep your head up, the best is yet to come.

I'm sorry you are not feeling well... but you did just had surgery! I was banded on May 30th and took me a week to the day (yesterday) to feel human again!!! Until yesterday I had to force myself to eat and drink anything, horrible pain at the site of port... and then there was the gas!!!! It really will get better! By this time next week you will have forgotten how uncomfortable you were this week!!! (Just like childbirth... you forget how painful it was!!!) Hang in there!!!! It will get better... and just remember you are now on the road to a new YOU!!!!!

As long as I take my Protein I am not hungry, it really seems to help with cravings. I bought the protein in the tube. It is 3 oz. I put it over ice like a hi ball and then sip it. I do this twice a day and am getting 84 gms of protein per day. I was banded on Friday, June 6th. Glory to God, I am doing great. You are in my prayers for peace and comfort from the Lord.

Some go into a funk or a slight depression and feel like it was a mistake because they are missing food. You just have to work through it and stick to the diet.... Once you start seeing those pounds fall off you wont even remember the "omg I want real tasty food" feeling.

Hang in there and keep posting.

My husband is very concerned that Iwon't be able to take my medications before I sleep. I take 15 medications, and probably take a few in the morning:scared2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
