Recommended Posts

I just love kid vacations!!! My boys are now 13 and 16 and I miss the younger years when we would take them on vacation... now its a different kind of fun. I just loved watching the little one's amazement of the world. That sound like a nice time with your family. Is it pretty warm down there? I think of Texas and summer and it makes me sweat thinking about it!!!!! :biggrin2:

Yes, it will be fun. My nephew is so much fun! He is just a joy to be around. I know these early years with him are precious and I'm taking full advantage of the time I have wiht him now.

It will be hot in San Antonio, but I'm used to it since I live in TX. I'm hoping that there will be food in the theme parks that I can eat...surely there will be some healthy options.

Hello,

I am new to this experience. I was banded on 6/25/08 and have lost 20.8 lbs. I am just .2 from see the 200's. It has been a week and I have lost nothing. I am so frustrated right now. I am having two Protein shakes a day and a cup of Soup. I go for my first fill on 7/21. Is it normal to stop losing so quickly. Yesturday was two weeks for me.

Russost, yes, I do believe it's normal to hit small plateaus. You recently had the surgery and have lost almost 21 pounds! That's great...your body is just trying to catch up. Just keep doing what you should be doing and you will start losing again. I hit a plateau about 3 weeks after surgery. My doctor told me to not focus on losing weight but to focus on letting my body heal and changing eating habits...I did that and didn't get frustrated about the lack of weight loss. Before I knew it, the weight started coming off again. When you do get under 300, we'll Celebrate with you!

Thank you for the support! You guys are doing great. How did you eat the 3rd week after surgery? My doctor told me to eat 4-6 times a day, oatmeal, Cereal, yogurt, Beans, potatoes, etc. soft foods, and Protein Shakes. I get the worst stomach aches when I eat soft foods, I have 2 shakes a day and eat one cup of Soup and I feel better. I get my first fill on 7/21. I know I need to heal but I am afraid to eat that I will gain weight. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Russ

On my 3rd week I was on pureed. I ate a lot of Protein puddings, shakes, and if I could put what I fixed for my family in a blender and add chicken or beef broth to thin it down I did it!!

I also loved crushed ice... I am a cruncher and I needed to crunch! So I did crushed ice covered with crystal light, cranberry juice or orange juice for a refreshing taste!!!

I couldn't have real food until I was 6 weeks out. I have to admit by that time I was pretty board with the liquid phase and I turned to ice cream and frosties (not a good idea)!

Hang in there, I know its tough but you will be on real food soon!! My doctor wouldn't fill me until after 6 weeks and actually I've only had 1 fill and it was at 8 weeks. I think I need one now, and I have an appt in 2 weeks.

I might be under 300 pounds as I type! I'll find out for sure next Tuesday. When I went to my 2 week post-op appointment, I weighed in at 303 pounds! I was 328 3 weeks earlier on the same scales! I have had hubby hide the scales so I don't weigh in every day. Tuesday will be exactly 1 month after my surgery, and I don't care what the number is as long as it begins with a 2! That is my next number goal! This would be the first time in YEARS and I'm hopeful!

My Wii Fit already has me under 300, but since the balance board sits on carpet I've found that it weighs about 5-7 pounds lighter than my doctor and home scales. So, I use it for BMI but not weight.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
