Ok, so what exactly is PBing? I was watching this thing on YouTube and a woman was talking about "spitting" after the lap band. Is that the same thing? I ask because I'm only 3 days post op, but after I eat (ice pops and broths mostly) I get this thing were I feel like I'm going to burp, but I don't always. Sometimes I do, sometimes it stops before it comes out. Nothing "fluid" ever come up either, it's just a strange feeling. I know it's from the band because I never got it before, but it's weird and I want to know what it is.

Hey NY ~ I think I'm doing the same thing. I was actually about to post a question asking if anyone knew, but I thought I would do it here since our symptoms are similar.

I think PB'ing is when you actually "vomit" something up, or atleast something comes up, food maybe? I think it stands for productive burp.

This thing I'm doing is so strange. It happens at no particular time. I get this feeling that I'm going to burp or hiccup maybe, and then I feel pressure coming up in my throat, but I don't burp or hiccup, it's just this strange feeling. Like you, I didn't start doing this until after the band, actually just in the past few days, I was banded last week.

Does anyone have any idea??

What the two of you are feeling might be residual air from your surgery. They pumped you full of air during surgery and it could be feeling like it wants to come up.

Usually PBing doesn't happen until after your first or second fill. It is very distinctive, it feels like you've eaten something that is too big and won't go down, your mouth waters like you are going to throw up, sometimes you do and sometimes you wait it out.

I have been told that the PB stands for "Productive Burp". So far I've never PB'd but I do burp way more than I used to prior to the band. I've only just had my first fill a couple of weeks ago and that has not seemed to make an impact on my hunger or volume of food I can eat.

Good luck to you!

OMG, the most embarassing thing just happened to me at the store. I went food shopping for the next stage with my father this morning and while walking down an aisle I got that same feeling again like something was gonna come up, I let out this huge burp which was so loud and

un-ladylike. Three people in the aisle turned around to see who it came from. I whispered sorry, grabbed my mouth in one hand and my stomach in the other and quickly waddled away. It was so embarassing, but I couldn't stop it. Please tell me that will eventually go away.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
