It's Been a While

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I am not sure if any of you remember me but I just wanted to check in. Everything has been going great with me. As you can see by my ticker I have lost 42 lbs. I am just starting to feel the effects of the band. I know I was supposed to be training myself these last 6 months but I didn't. I am just starting to get used to the chew, chew, chew and small bites. I can definalty say that I've feelt the "stuck" feeling several times so far. I go back again on Tuesday for another fill so I know things are going to get harder.

I've been a little depressed these past few months because I don't see the weight coming off and I've lost that drive that I had in the begining. I am not excersing and can't seem to get myself out there to do it! Do any of you feel this way or have felt this way? My nurse keeps telling me to give it 9 months and then things will start looking up and I will be where I should be with the band. That is only 2 months away and I just don't see that much of a change taking place. Anyway, it was good checking up on everyone and by the looks of it you are all doing wonderful! Congrats!

Nessa,

Snap out of it girl. 42 pounds is a very respectable loss in 7 months. I've lost 40.5 in the same time and I am VERY happy. You HAVE to start thinking in a more positive fashion. If that requires going to some sort of counseling, then DO IT. You have nothing to be depressed about that I can see.

The important thing is to not let this funk you are in derail you. Just keep moving forward. Try to do something that reminds you of all you have accomplished. Make a list of all the good things (e.g., smaller clothes, easier time walking or going up stairs, more room in the chair, less knee pain) - whatever motivates you. Then look at that list every day and focus on ways to add to it.

It's so frustrating to see people beat themselves up and lose hope when they are really doing quite well. Maybe you need to check in here more often. Group support is a very powerful thing.

Hang in there.

Hey Nessa. I'm just learning too. I used to be able to eat like usual up till a month or so ago when I finally got a proper fill amount. I've had a few stuck episodes too and I have to be very careful when I'm hungry or else the first bite gets stuck (because I'm too hungry to chew properly!)

I was feeling kinda blue too about my weightloss, thinking it should have been more dramatic - BUT there's no way I would have lost this amount on my own. Today was the first day I went to our local Water park and, believe me, I felt a huge difference between last year and this year at "only" 45 pounds down. I was looking at my legs while in a tire tube and I couldn't believe how small they looked compared to last year. So 40 odd pounds is HUGE difference!

Welcome back Nessa. 42 lbs down is a great achievement. How many more do you need to lose? I was told that if we lose 25kgs (55lbs) in the first year then we are on track. You are not expected to lose at a fast rate with the band. Of course some people on here have achieved so much more but that is not the norm and I am unfortunately not one of them. I have lost 35lbs. I know I could have lost more by now and sometimes I berate myself but overall, I'm very happy with that loss. I still have 5 months to go before my year is up so if I can lose another 20lbs in that time, then I am on track. We spent so many years overweight and if it takes a year or two to get to goal and stay there, I would be very happy with that. Take it easy on yourself and get on this site more often, it does help keep things in perspective.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
