I have attended my second seminar with Dr. Groves and Dr. Britt and finally got my nerve up to make my first appointment which will be on July 7th - a week from today! I am so excited, just hope I don't loose my nerve while waiting for my six months of weight management for Blue Cross Blue Shield. I have attended seminars with other doctors, but I felt like Dr. Britt was the one for me - he is so personable and the fact that he has the lap band himself really helped me make my decision. I get really excited during the seminar and wish they could do the surgery the next morning so I don't have time to put it off again. lol

It's great to hear from others who have used these two great doctors!

Smiles

Patricia

Patricia, per your message...your appt was yesterday:thumbup:. How'd it go? Hope your feeling more at ease with your decision. Dr. Britt did my LB Feb 28th. I wouldn't change a thing. I still worry sometimes about things that can go wrong. However, before I worried about my weight, health issues, weight, rather clothes would fit, weight, what people were thinking, weight, being nude in front of my hubby and did i mention weight. So i have to say i don't worry half as much as i used to.

good luck with your decision and the insurance issue (another worry). Keep us up to date.

Hazel Green, Al

Hello everyone. I would like to become friends with all of you, I may be screaming "HELP" before this is all over. Just some quick background: I work for USDA and have been relocated for about 2 1/2 years. I have been thinking for quite some time about being banded, but don't know or trust any doctors in Kentucky. And, I don't know how long I will be in this area. A friend is using Dr. Groves and shared her experiences with me. Later I found out my Mom used him for hernia surgery. It seemed like everything just fell into place with the appointments (I am making everything for the same days so I only have to make one trip). The insurance looks great. And I will be home for the surgery so my Mom can help. (Did I say "help", I should have said "hover"!) In any case, just wanted to say hello and let you know who I am.

HEY YA'LL!:)

Hello everyone, Sproutwife, I'm from Gadsden also. My surgery was with Dr. Groves on Oct. 7th, 2008. I have had one followup so far and he and the office staff were friendly and helpful. Darlene, insurance, is very kind. I get my first fill on Nov. 24th. Good Luck everyone, !!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
