LapBand scheduled for 7/14 but haven't noticed anyone near my age here

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am so glad to find this forum to be able to ask questions and learn more about the lapband. I have been wanting this for a long time now, but too undecided to get it done. I am 63 years old with numerous aging health problems that can be helped by having this surgery to help me remove some of this weight. .the main problem is, I have leg and foot problems which prevent me from walking very much (not at all right now, until an ulcer heals). I am presently in a wheelchair. Any suggestions on types of exercise I can do to help my weight reduction? I can't go swimming..Podiatrist nixed that idea. I am grateful to any and all suggestions. I must commend you all for your support to one another. I have been reading some of the post and the outpouring of support is wonderful. :thumbup:Jodi (leelee)

leelee- my mom is in a wheelchair most of the time. She is lucky because she can swim and move a little bit, but she does do a lot of different activities with her arms and legs. Anything that keeps you moving, even when you're sitting. There is a tv station on her satellite that shows chair exercises. Maybe google it and see if you can buy a DVD the demonstrates some. My mom does leg lifts, stretches, lifts arm weights, even stomach crunches in her chair.

Good luck!

You might want to invest in a pair of lightweight dumbbells and look online for some exercises you can do sitting down. You don't need a lot of expensive equipment for these exercises, and they can do wonders for your upper body strength and muscle tone.

There is a program on PBS called Sit and be fit but the lady doing the excerises does do some hanging on to the back of a chair. I this helps

Leelee I am excited we have the same banding date!

Have you asked your doctor about resistance bands?? My young girlfriend who is paralyzed uses them quite a bit.

Hi MaidMarion,

Yeah, I have something in common with someone besides being a bander. We are "same day new banders". You are nearly as young as my daughter who is 43 years old, lol. I know I am going to need all the encouragement that I can get, for I am a terrible one to snack. I am missing them already and I have just begun to change eating habits...one month now. I really don't know just what I can and cannot have to eat, I just know that Protein is the number one thing to have and fats are a no-no. I do thank you for your helpful suggestions on exercise I can do and I am hoping to be out of this wheelchair at least by September or sooner with luck. Keep in touch. Leelee

Thanks to everyone for your helpful comments and suggestions. I am going to give those dumb bells a try and look for that tv station as well. All were good suggestions. You all were so helpful.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
