You can google BMI calculator to figure it out for yourself, but based on the weights I've looked at for my BMI at 5'3" I would say you're probably around 36 or 37.

Do you qualify? No one can tell you except your insurance company. Your card should have a number on it that you can call to verify benefits. Call the number and ask them what their requirements are. They can give you specifics about BMI and co-morbidity requirements.

Even someone with the same insurance can't tell you for certain since your employer may choose to exclude some benefits (like weight loss surgery) in exchange for cheaper policies.

Definitely call your insurance company and find out. Mine didn't cover the procedure or any type of weight loss surgery (Aetna) but I had the surgery two weeks ago and so far this has been a great experience.

I know exactly how you feel I am 5' 5" and approx 230 and so depressed about my weight. I was always the skinny one at 100lbs in high school so to see myself looking like this it's very hard, even harder is losing the weight and keeping it off. I have just recently started to come to this website also to get some information about the pros and cons about having the procedure done. Good luck to you. - Joelle

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
