Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

I am really bummed...I can NOT seem to lose weight :(

Recommended Posts

In order for my doc to even submit to insurance for approval, I need to lose 20 lbs. I was not losing in the beginning and then I started seeing the scale move and now it's going back up again.

I am ready to cry. I meet with him next week and he's probably gonna laugh at me and kick me out

How come you have to lose 20 lbs? What are you doing to lose it? Maybe something like Nutrasystem or Jenny Craig could get you to where you need to be. We all know it's hard to keep it off with those diets, but the control they provide do work short term...

Plus, your doctor should help you with this, not laugh at you or kick you out of his office.

I know how you feel. The scale has stopped moving for me too but on the bright side I have lost some inches around my waist.

I would really like to see the scale move though. LOL

I lose the most and the fastest by doing the Atkins Induction diet. You can definitely lose 20 pounds on it, and if you focus on eating all the things you CAN (instead of focusing on all of the things you can't have), then it's fairly easy.

Of course, it's not a good long-term solution because the weight will come back when you re-introduce carbs, but if you're just looking to lose 20 pounds to show your doctor you CAN lose 20 pounds, I think it's great.

You CAN do it!! We're all behind you, willing you on!!

Its really hard, but it just needs a lot of willpower over a short period of time. I know how it feels, I was put on a pre-banding liver-reducing diet in April & I was convinced I wouldn't lose enought weight & that the consultant would take one look at my insides & refuse to operate. But, to my surprise, on the day of the op, when they weighed me in hospital, I had lost a whole stone (14lbs) in a fortnight!! :biggrin2:

I live in the UK, so some of the items may be called different things where you are, but I did it on the following:

Breakfast - 1 x Meal Replacement drink (Slimfast)

lunch - 1 x Meal Replacement drink (Slimfast)

dinner - 1 x Slimfast Soup

1/2 pre-packed Asda (Walmart) fresh tropical fruit salad (Melon, Mango, pineapple, etc) with a low-fat yoghurt poured over

snack - 1 x Slimfast chocolate Caramel Bar (99cal "Mars Bar" equivalent)

It seemed like the fortnight went on forever, but I just crossed each day of my calendar & tried not to think too far ahead. Just try & drink plenty & if you feel like you need food, go for a walk or ring a friend for a chat, just to take your mind off it.

I had to do the "meal replacement" route, as when I try & cut down my portions of "normal" food, I know that I always go over the portion size, so by taking the temptation away & sticking to the above, I had total control over the calories.

Good luck!

Suzi

You can do it Melissa.. I agree with the poster about Atkins .. no carbs.. Protein , Protein.. get rid of soda and ALL sugar.. and it will happen for you.... You are going to have to modify and change your diet anyway after surgery. I wish you all the best of luck.. I know you will be successful....I was the biggest sugar fiend and now i cannot tolerate it... sugar gives me violent stomach cramps.. even Splenda.. go figure..

Thank you everyone :wink2: I appreciate the suggestions and links. I think I will try the Atkins induction phase.

I just feel like a failure and I haven't even been banded yet *sigh*

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
