Queenzjade-

One of the things they will focus on is your past diet history--have you dieted several times and lost weight only to have it come back? Failed diets seems to be the most important thing they are concerned about. Also-is your weight affecting your way of life? Making it hard to have the energy to care for your lil man? Is it hard to keep up with him? Those are factors that will make it easier to get your band.

Do lots of reading here on this website and you'll be prepared when you meet the doctor, and things will go easier for you!

thank you for the great information!!

well I called my insurance which is Medicaid/Healthfirst and they told me for me to be considered for the Lap band I Have to make an appt with a gastro doc first. Then he will refer me to the surgeon. I called right away to schedule it.

As for me after I had my son I lost all the weight from size 22 to size 8 but 5 yrs ago gained it back . every since my weight has come up then down and up again. I dont have energy to walk at times sooo is frustrating I need to be an active mother for my son. SO i hope is a go for me...is it a long process to get approved??

Welcome, it's a big decision. I spent lots of time telling myself why I shouldn't have the surgery. In that time I didnt' lose a single pound. I love being outside, I love skiing and cycling but to be quite honest, I was barely doing my favorite things because of my weight. I called a surgeons office and talked to one of his assistants and by the time we were done talking I started the process. I'm now two weeks post-op and am thrilled so far. Weight is coming down, I'm really excited about the things I will be able to do as I heal and drop the weight even further.

My opinion, spend some time looking into this. My primary care physician told me not to do this that I could lose the weight on my own (I couldn't). My family was 100% behind me and without them I wouldn't have gone through with it. I have a long way to go on my journey but I can say this I truly believe this is going to work and allow me to be as active as I want to be and as healthy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
