Hi

Has anyone been told that there is a very high risk of pregancy soon after this surgery???? This is what my doctor's nurse told me today. If this is true - how long am I at a high risk?????

Thanks:confused2:

Congrats on your surgery and the start of a new life and journey ahead!

I had learned that the higher chances of becoming pregnant is due to the large amount of weight loss, and this is because your body has to regulate itself, as it will go through some hormonal changes as you continually to lose weight. You become more fertile, as a result, perhaps the most fertile during this time. This has nothing to do with the surgery itself. This is why we are strongly advised to use good birth control during this weight loss phase. I hope this helps answer your question. Good luck!

exactly - fertility can improve quite quickly for some people, if you've not been bothered with birth control, you might be in for a surprise.

As women lose weight it increases the amount of freed up estrogen in the body, helping along ovulation. You are not any more at risk than if you were ovulating normally before. You won't be releasing eggs three times a month or anything crazy...it just makes your body better about doing what it is supposed to normally. If you aren't trying for a baby, definitely use birth control even if you didn't need to before.

it's not that you're at a higher risk. It's just that as you lose weight it becomes easier to get knocked up so be EXTRA careful! lol

20 years ago, I had just lost 30 pounds and got PG unexpectedly. I remarried 4 years ago and we have been trying the whole time with no luck. Murphy's law I guess, when you don't want it it happens, when you do want it it doesn't. I am thinking that the band may be very helpful, but I will wait as has been recommended for at least a year before trying so as not to cause any issues.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
