Hi, I was just banded 6/3. No can't have the other items you mentioned. You may want to buy Isopure from GNC, it contains 40g of Protein. That should help put a end to your hunger. It's really not sweetend you may have to add an equal or 2 deal w/ the taste. You may want to buy GASx strips that should really help wit your gas.

What did your doctor say? 3 weeks of liquids for me! Then mushies, then regular foods in smaller portions, taking smaller bites, chewing really well.

In addition to Protein Shakes (I mixed up my own with organic skim milk and Optimum Nutrition chocolate whey Protein from GNC), I lived on no-sugar added applesauce, fat-free/sugar-free pudding, and lots and lots of Soup for the first two weeks after surgery.

I also lived on low-fat/low-carb yogurt as well. I added vanilla whey Protein to the yogurt and pudding to provide added protein.

The best advice I can give is to ask your Doctor. It seems that most have diffrent guidelines to go by. Mine asked for two weeks of Clear Liquids (broth, jello), two weeks of full liquids, two weeks of mushies, and two weeks soft solids. But only your Dr. can tell you his particular guidelines. Give him a call.

I was on liquids the first week, purees the second week. The Protein will help fill you up. I felt like I was "empty" the first 2 weeks after surgery. But, when I drank (even the tiniest amount) I had a painful burp & I was definately full. "Empty" is the only way I can explain the feeling but, when I started mushies I undersand what hungry is.

As for the chest pain...GasX helped me with the gas but, I also was tight in the chest and it burned around where my sternum is. The doc said that's where they put the instrument that holds your liver out of the way and sometimes they have to move around a bit which causes discomfort. To me this was the majority of my pain.

Stay the course for the first couple of weeks to let yourself heal. Sip your Water & protein and try to stay on the liquids. Try to remember it'll be over soon enough.

Rose, you can have anything that fits through a straw. Creamy Soups really helped me. They are made with milk. I'm sure you can have cream of wheat if you Water it down to a liquid form. Do not move to mushies until your doctor says it is okay. That is typically at least week 4. Good luck.

You really need to call your doctor's office and see if they can send you a list of items to have... My doc says if you can fit it through a straw, you can have it... On the 22nd day, you can start eating... I can't wait... only 6 days left for me... The thickest thing I have is creamed soups...

Slimfast is very filling. A can of Soup at Hand is great too!

Best of Luck to you... don't worry, the pain takes about 10 days to subside if not 12 or 14. Everyone is different. It will fade away and you'll just say to yourself- Wow- I feel normal! LOL

Today was my first day home from surgery. I haven't been hungry at all. The Isopure drink which can be bought from GNC really provided me with 40 grams of Protein, wow what a sustainer!! I bought a qt of wonton Soup broth from my local chinese restaurant, had a couple of sf popcicles, and Jello. I also had Water in between. Vicadin is how I have been handling my pain management. I bought a pill crusher/slicer from GNC which has truly been a godsend. I hope this helps anyone who reads it. Lastly, thank you Dr.Floch my gallbladder surgery a week in half ago was flawless and my post op from my band has got me of to the best start ever. I love you!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
