3rd week post op diet and feeling weak

Recommended Posts

I was banded on may 19th and have been on the liquid diet. I've drink two Protein Shakes a day and for lunch have cream of wheat and dinner I have a cup of cream of something Soup. I usually have one sugar-free pudding as a snack. I'm really lacking energy and have a hard time doing anything. Is this normal for the liquid diet and will this energy come back when I can start eating again. (in 12 more days). I've lost about 20 lbs so far since starting the liquid diet. The past 3 days I've stalled in my weight loss but I'm guessing my body is leveling out now. Help, I need some energy.:cursing:

Hi! We were banded on the same day! My energy has diminished as well...I had to let my surgeon know that I NEEDED my iced tea in the morning and afternoon for energy! That has helped. I also try to stay moving to keep the blood flowing. When I was at home, I would just lay around and would be tired all day - being back at work has helped alot.

Congrats on your weight loss, you are doing really well!!

Hang in there...we'll be on regular foods soon!:cursing:

Thanks Lexy! Looks like you're doing great as well. Tell me, are you eating about the same amount that I'm eating? I wonder if I should be eating more.

Let's see...I usually have watered down oatmeal and milk for Breakfast, applesauce or Jello for snack, Soup for lunch, yogurt or pudding for snack and soup for dinner.

I make sure I get in at least 64 ounces of Water, including my iced tea.

Went today for my follow-up appointment and the nutritionist was very disappointed. I am lacking Protein. She gave me a great tip though! 1 ounce of milk has 1 gram of protein! I am supposed to have 53 grams of Protein a day...as long as it is 1% milk, I can have as much as I want. :cursing:

Can't wait to start mushies - can't wait to have some tuna with LF mayo!

I was banded on 5/15 and after one week on liquids I had absolutely no energy what so ever. I didnot have enough energy to even talk on the phone. I went to the DR's office and they started me on Protein Shakes and advanced me to a soft diet. I also started making the Protein pudding. Over a period of about 1 week, my energy started to come back. I am now back to work and working 10 to 12 hour days without a problem. Just saw the doctor again today, and was advanced to regular food, and will have my first fill on July 2. I have lost about 20 pounds. Keep up the great weight loss and your energy will back soon.

I felt very weak until I could start eating solid foods again. But you do lose weight the fastest in that first 4-6 weeks, so even tho your feeling weak, just remember that you are losing and when you do start eating solids, they will taste Soooo good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
