As far as the gastric sleeve. I have a friend who had that one month before I had my lap band surgery.

She has thrown up since day one. Can't get much at all so she sips the creamy stuff. I've lost the same amount and my life isn't abnormal as hers is.

I can eat most foods within reason. She can't.

She has more problems with reflux since she throws up so much.

Anyway that's my observations.

The sleeve can be rough for the first couple of months. Your body continues to make the bile/stomach acid for a normal sized stomach. But after a while, it settles down and then you don't get stuck (your stomach opening is the same size as before), you don't have to worry about erosion or slippage and you don't have to go to the doctor all the time for adjustments (fills). So it's a trade off.

All the surgeries have their pluses and minues, IMO. It really comes down to what you can live with and everyone is going to have a different answer to that.

Reflux can be a problem for some people. It is for most right out of surgery. Some have to take a PPI for 2 weeks to 3 months.

She should see a doc, that's not normal for a sleeve.

Thanks for writing that.

I belong to several boards and I posted on one of them that I was really having problems with my band and didn't have any fight left in me to continue fighting band problems. I wrote that I wanted to revise to a sleeve.

One person from here who also posts on the other board chewed my butt telling me I didn't have a right to a revision surgery (I was self pay for banding and revision) since I was at goal. I was eating ice cream and frosting at the time to maintain my weight and she told me I was anorexic with body image issues. How many anorexics do you know eat frosting and ice cream to maintain/gain weight? She is one of the pro-band folks, only banding will work for anyone, blah blah blah. I had made mention of the revision surgery here and I came back and deleted the posts deciding I wouldn't say anything to anyone until after it was done. It was a hard decision to give up my band and I just didn't need the crap so I didn't tell many about it until it was done and over.

Then I had others telling me I should chew better. How much should I chew a Protein shake? ;o)

Of all boards I should have probably mentioned here what I was planning but due to the experience on the other board, I just didn't want to, so thanks for writing what you did.

hi wasa...glad you are doing well.

i want to commend you on taking care of yourself in the way you need to.

i have to say i have issues with this board and the way people attack other on "what's right for them" the fact is....the band is great for some, great for some for sometime and not so good for others.

i am on a similar path as you. i was told last week by the PS to gain a little weight (it felt good for someone to say that ha!)

i also am all of a sudden having trouble eating. in fact i never even think of eating.

i am going back to my lapband doctor to check it out.

i am glad you are doing well and have adjusted your WL program to meet your needs.

We won't tell anyone what I ate at the mall WASA. It's a good thing for the band, or I would have finished it too.

WASaBubbleButt,

Hi. I'm one week out from my band to sleeve surgery. I have a bit of pain where the port was, otherwise, I'm doing well. My question, I have a pretty big lump (and have had it since the surgery) where the port was. There is no redness or heat around the incision. The incision has closed very nicely. Did you have this swelling? I wasn't worried in the beginning, but am wondering how long this will be here. I think I remember someone mentioning this happening (I don't know if it was the doctor or online). Anyway, I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Also, the swollen spot is where the drain came out of and was left open to close on its on.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
