This is very normal so don't sweat it. Plateauing is something you will get used to. You may need multiple fills before you really start shedding pounds or it may happen right after the first one. Everyone is different. For me it was after my third that the weight really flew off and I could feel the restriction.

It might take more than one fill. But yes, eventually you'll be eating less and feeling satisfied with the smaller amount you are eating.

So hang in there! Your first fill must be coming up soon if you were banded Apr 11th.

18 pounds since surgery is great! We're to expect 1-2 lbs per week. You're right on track!

Oh absolutely! I went 6 weeks from surgery to first fill. I lost about 16 in the first 4 weeks, then gained 2, then lost 1. The week following the first fill, I lost 6. Its totally normal. Good luck!

Hi Princess,

I was just wondering...since I'm getting my 1st fill tomorrow(terrified) if I will be able to eat like I have been but less. Does this make sense? I can eat & drink now at the same time & find it will be so very hard not to drink with my meals. What will happen if I do?

Thanks, any help would be great!

I may be wrong here as I haven't had a fill yet, but my understanding is you shouldn't eat/drink at the same time because it pushes the food through the band meaning you won't be satisfied as quickly. Therefore, you should train yourself as of now not to do that. Drink a glass of Water 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after eating but not at the same time. Fellow bandsters, please correct me if I am wrong

Dang I just erased my longer response. To the point yes you are correct jaria. My doctor explained it like this......adding liquid to a solid makes a slurry and the slurry will slip through the opening at a very fast rate so you will not feel full and you will be able to keep eating. I think the not drinking with meals will be really hard for me. That and no straws.

We are in the same boat. I was banded on 4/16 and have not had a fill. I had hit a plateau there for a while, but I have lost about a pound and a half since I started working out. I am seeing a new surgeon next week and hope to get my fill ASAP. I really need one!

Plateaus seem to be the norm for me so far. Of course I've only had 2 fills but the way it works for me is I lose pretty well for a couple of weeks after a fill, then I can eat more again so stop losing. The plateaus are discouraging but I think I will get there eventually, just not as soon as I had hoped.

I have been "working" the same damn pound for 10 days now...off one day, back to see me the next, repeat, repeat.

With exercise, without, it doesn't matter. I can hear my body saying, "nah, nah, nah, nah, nah."

Fill on June 23. Can't get here soon enough.

Can you hear the frustration???

With a fill or without a fill you gotta make good healthy food choices - follow the banders rules - NO DRINKING WITH MEALS (som doc's say 1 hr before or after - mine it's 1/2 hr before or after).

Once you all get proper restriction it will make the job easier - you may or may not have it on your first fill - it does help hunger some - but for me it doesn't take it away 100% - I will be full from dinner and still want to eat and I am at my sweet spot. So don't think just cuz you are filled that you are not going to want to eat - you are still going to want to (well for me) you just gotta do the mental work that goes along with the band.

Exercise is key too - are any of you exercising yet??

I guess I must be abnormal - I haven't hit a plateau yet - it should be coming any day - but I really feel that my good eating habits and exercise have been key to my loss every week except one where I stayed even with the week before.

Also - pick one day a week to weigh in - don't get on the scales everyday - i did for the 1st week - but after that - I weigh in just once a week - same day same time..

I've lost about 15 since my surgery date and am completely happy with that. But, I do know that I can improve that with better food choices. Also...had one fill and probably should get another one soon. Also - walk or go to Water aerobics or something - helps a lot!

So in less then 2 months you've lost an average of 9 pounds and you're upset! Would you have lost that much on your own??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
