Ok! Just saw my doc today, tomorrow I go in for my pre-op, and then off to surgery on Monday the 30th!

Like many people on this thread, I'm also a grad student, and in my thirties. Can't wait for this to finish up, so I can start on the new lifestyle. Just saw my two cousins today who've had it done (one two years ago, and one a month ago), and i just couldn't recognize them! holy jeez! I was impressed.

So glad I found this group!

We have 3.5 days left! yay!

Hey All!! I am so completely ready to get through tomorrow and the weekend!!! I'm tired of being in the pre op zone and ready to be post op!!!

Lilly - very cool that you have two people in your life that you can see the results live and up close!!! I bet they are a great resource for all your questions and such. Are you going to the same surgeon as your cousins?

I've been trying really hard to stay on track w/ the pre op but it's been rough!! I want to chew my fingers off!!! I broke down last Sunday and had a spinich salad and a roll...you'd think I'd have died and gone to heaven - never knew spinch could taste so damn good!!

Hope all you other 6/30 folks are doing fantastic!!! Big hugz to all of you ~ Tai

Welcome Erin,

I read your post earlier, but didn't have a chance to reply. I am at work right now, and thought I would pop in a say hello.

I am very excited, but starting to get a little nervous. And I am definitely hungry. We have been so busy at work, that I am using up all my calories from the liquid diet. Not really losing much though. I tend to retain Water when I am on a diet, so I guess this is what is happening right now. After a couple of weeks it should drop.

Anyway, I am glad you are part of our little group.

Stephanie

Just received a call from the anesthesiologist. Wow this is really happening. Finally our day is drawing near.

I am feeling so many emotions right now. Some are probably due to hormones and others are because of the changes I am starting to go through emotionally and soon physically.

I still don't quite have the support I wish I did from my fiance, but that is ok too. My kids are also nervous, which doesn't make it easy for me right now. They are 15, 17, and 23, so they are old enough to understand the risks and what they mean for them. It is hard not to get a little down when I think about the worse case scenario and what it would do to them. But I figure, if I don't do something now, they will just watch me get older and fatter and pretty much die a slow death in front of their eyes. Not the way to LIVE and not the way I want to live.

I feel that way everytime I see my mother, because she has many major health issues and doesn't really seem to care about what it means for her. She wants to live her life the way she wants to live it and so what if something happens. She lived doing and eating what she wants and that is all thats important to her. I feel like I am just watching her slowly kill herself, which is the main reason for my decision to be banded.

With all this said, thanks for letting me vent one last time before Monday. I know in my heart all well turn out well for me and for all of you. Like I said, I don't really have the support I wish I had from my family, but I do have the support from my new online family. This is the way I see all of you. So as I go in for my surgery, I will imagine all of you being there with me; I think this will make it much easier.

My surgery is not until later in the day. I don't have to be there til 1p. Which I guess isn't too bad since I have a two hour drive. It just leaves me more time for thinking. And more time to get really thirsty, LOL!!!!! The bad thing is, they said I will be there about 5 hours and then have another 2 hour drive back home. I would stay out of town, but I will be so anxious to get back to my family and my little dog Daisy.

Thanks again for all your support.

Sincerly,

Stephanie

Cathy - thanks for the post!!! I always enjoy reading your posts!!! I'm finding myself a bit more freaked out -but so glad that its the weekend so I don't have to pretend to focus on work. On the crap side of things, my TOM started today so that is going to make for a challenging recovery...but what can I do?!? Just go with the flow - no pun intended.

Tomorrow is going to be tough - no Protein shakes or bars. Only Jello, diet 7-Up, etc. I think I'll stay home and lay low and mentally prepare for Monday morning. I have to check in at 5:30 and surgery is scheduled for 7:30. Still have NO clue if I get to come home the same day or if I am staying overnight. Guess I'll find out Monday - and need to make sure I pack for overnight just in case.

It's all a bit surreal...almost there!!!!

Good Luck tomorrow to my fellow, future skinny lap band buddies....

I hope everyone's surgery is ontime, no delays, no complications...

Happy Surgery Day!

It's been a tough 17 days of liquids only, but I see the goal line in the short distance of tomorrow...

I've lost 21 lbs, off 1 diabetic med already, the other one maybe even tomorrow;

I went to the doctor friday and my blood pressure was 112/60.... I couldn't believe it.....NEVER had a reading like that in my entire adult life.... I put my hand to my chest to see if I even had a heart beat!

I broke the news to family over the past few days about the surgery... some freaked, some cheered, some are very nervous.

In the past, I coped with their opinions by eating...now I no longer have that option.... so I just thank them for their sharing.... and affirm my decision to do this; especially after dropping 21 lbs and stopping one of my medicine's (-3 pills) already...

Hugs to you all!

Hi ladies. Well, our day is almost here! At times today I've worried, at times I've cried and other times I've felt anxious. I have never had surgery before, so I'm really kind of scared. My emotions are all over the map today. I've been cleaning like a freak. I just finished cleaning out my closet and told my husband, "well, if I don't make it home, at least you have a clean closet!" It's a bout the fifth time today I've cleaned out something and told him that was the reason. This last time he just shook his head at me.

This morning at church, my cousin let the cat out of the bag to my step-sister that I'm having surgery tomorrow. I hadn't planned on telling any of that side of the family about it because I'm not close to any of them, and well you all know the reasons behind keeping this private. Of course she asked me what kind of surgery I was having. I couldn't lie, I was in church! So, I told her and figured, oh well. She could use the lapband herself! She was nice about it and wished me luck.

So...my surgery is 3pm tomorrow. I have to be there at 1pm to register. I'm NPO after midnight tonight, so tomorrow will be rough! I plan to clean out my laundry room in the am to keep me busy.

I won't write here until I get home on Tuesday. I promise to drop a line that evening. I have to stay overnight tomorrow and I'm not lugging my laptop to the hospital for fear I'll lose it. Good luck everyone and I can't wait to see you all safely on the other side!:)

I hope we all keep in touch. Good luck to all of you. I will look for your success stories here or drop me a line on myspace.

So, we're banded!

Hoping everyone else is doing well.... I'm in a fair amount of pain (today SUCKED, but tonight I feel a bit better) but the surgery itself was textbook and fast and everyone was kind and helpful at the hospital. Overall I had a very, very good banding experience.

I was admitted at 6:00 AM with a surgery time of 7:30. I went in on time and was out an hour later. The anesthesia didn't really bother me (no throwing up or crying jags or anything) but I did have a sore throat from the tube they put in and was/am very gassy. The gas is the worst!

I slept on and off and walked and sipped a Water bottle and eventually ate dinner at 6ish. The half cup of cream of chicken Soup was DEVINE. I'm feeling very grateful my surgeon doesn't require a liquids stage -- it's straight to purees for me for four weeks.

I was discharged right after dinner.

As mentioned earlier, today sucked pain wise -- I had a very hard time doing anything other than sitting in a recliner and needed help getting up to a standing position.

I'm also having a very hard time getting in my Water and Protein -- I've had half an Atkins Advantage shake twice today and another 1/2 cup of cream of chicken Soup. Plus probably 30 oz of water. How's everyone else doing??

My thoughts are with you all!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
