Hi,

I am new to the site! I am having pre-op tomorrow (6/4/08) and Banding on Thursday (6/12/08). I had the thought that I would not have any hunger sensations. After reading some of the posts, I don't know about that! I may have a long road ahead of me. I need the site for constant support. I am glad you are here. I want to lose weight and extend my life so I will do what it takes to succeed. Please pray for me. I live in Aurora, CO and my doctor is Johnathan Shoen at the University of Colorado Hospital Bariatrics clinic. My entire family is behind me. I have about 135 lbs to lose.

You are in my thoughts and prayers! Good luck with everything - I am sure you will do just fine. I have pre-op on Friday and banding on the 24th! The excitement is building! MM

Don't worry - some hunger is normal. It's your body's way of reminding you to eat.

Once you have your band filled to the right level (for you), the constant insatiable hunger that got you to 135 lbs overweight is not going to be there like it is now. Instead, your physical hunger sensation will be normal -- I find it pleasant, actually, to be a little hungry right before mealtime. It makes eating my small meal more satisfying.

Best wishes on your surgery, hope to see you around on the site!

You'll be in my prayers! You should know, you will have hunger sensations. You might not have them for a few days after surgery, maybe even a week or more, but you will start to feel hungry. Don't panic. It won't take as much as it used to to fill you up. And once you're filled, it'll take even less.

The hardest thing for me has been changing my head hunger over my stomach hunger. Just last night I wasn't hungry in my stomach, but my head - oh my head - I wanted to EAT! My husband ate chicken and a huge, beautiful salad and I just wanted to grab it from him!

I had a lot of iced tea last night and kept telling myself that it's in my head.

You'll make it through this. Keep the faith. Ask God for help. You are fearfully and wonderfully made - He knows what it takes to satisfy you. Ask Him for help and you'll succeed!

Congratulations on starting your wonderful journey! It's worth it!

Hey, thanks for the encouragement! God bless you and keep you safe through your procedure. You are just behind me. I am wanting to lose the weight, but I am a little apprehensive about what I am about to do. And I thought the gastric bypass was drastic! I guess they would have had to sedate me throughout my journey of weightloss if I got that surgery.

Erica, thanks for the encouragement. I will pray for help and guidance. I know what you mean about head hunger because I got to 277 by eating for every emotion. I eat when I am definitely not hungry. Sometimes I ask myself why am I eating this. It does not taste good and it does not fulfill the anxiety, worry, disappointment, emotional pain and whatever else I may be feeling. I will pray about that as well. Thanks and best wishes to you.

Molly, thanks for the info about hunger. I hope I am too excited about the procedure to even think about hunger. I want to much to be successful at this. I will do what it takes to get those 135 or so pounds off. I am looking forward to being a new woman. Best wishes to you.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
