OK, so while I have no reason to think anything is wrong with my band(I'm a week out of surgery, I'm following my Doctor's orders and I feel great) I'm paranoid that my band will slip. So, what are the symptoms of slippage? I know major slippage, you can't keep anything down, acid reflux, etc. But what about a minor slippage? Can moving around a lot soon after surgery cause slippage?

Thanks for helping with my irrational fears

If it's a minor slippage, you may not know. Why not keep your focus on healing and staying on your post-op diet instead of being paranoid.

At your follow up appointment your doctor will inspect your incisions and your port area. Let your doctor determine how you're doing and until then, focus on healing.

Our bands are sewn onto our stomachs and our ports are well in place. Enjoy your journey and don't let fear get in the way. Stress isn't healthy and only causes our bodies to retain and build on fat.

When they talk about slippage, they don't mean that the band itself slips......it is the lower stomach that slips up thru the band into the pouch. The older bands had some problems with slippages, but the new ones (like you probably have) are doing much better.

Slippage is usually caused by vomiting....not just sliming, but real vomiting - that's why we have to be so careful about eating small bites, chewing well, avoiding stuck episodes as much as we can. However, just because you get stuck doesn't mean you are going to have a slippage, so don't get paranoid about it.

And even if you do get a slippage, very often they can empty your band, put you on liquids for a few weeks, then the stomach tissue slips back down where it belongs....you begin to get fills again and start all over.

I've had two slippages and am now scheduled to have a 'new and improved' band put in soon. I'm ready!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
