Hi,

went to a bar last night with some friends, everything was really loud. After talking (yelling) with my friends for awhile, I got a feeling that I couldn't breathe. I had eaten 1/2 a chick breast and had a small cocktail, so it wasn't the food, I sucked on some ice and that seemed to help, but I almost panicked, my chest was tight and it felt band-related (I only have 1.5cc in a 10cc band)

Has anyone ever had this happen?

Sounds a bit like a panic/anxiety attack - are you prone?

My DH has them and spent months convinced he was going to have a heart attack, it was difficult to diagnose, it was actually me that diagnosed it becuase I was able to do so based on his anxious hypochondriac/control freak kind of nature, (that sounds mean, but it really isnt, its his personality type), I just KNEW him and knew that he was talking himself into it.

Nonetheless is a very debilitating condition. Are you worried about something? They CAN just happen but even the stress of surgery etc may have been the catalyst for it.

You know though, it COULD have been the food. It may have just blocked your stoma for a while, that sensation can certainly happen sometime after you've eaten, particularly if you're drinking too. And you're healing up from recent surgery arent you? Could just be a phantom thing.

Keep an eye on it though.

I was thinking the same as jachut. I have anxiety/panic attacks and am on multiple medications to help me with that. They are TERRIBLE!!! And I feel like I am loosing my breath, having a heart attack, feeling like everyone is crowding around me, even though they are not. I would call the Doc and just give him your symptoms from last night and see what he says...

Hope that help!!?!?!?!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
