ursa 0 Posted June 2, 2008 I am 2 weeks out of being banded. I continually have bad breath. I brush, floss & mouthwash but fairly soon after-wow. I wonder if it's the Protein Drinks. I know we are not supposed to chew gum. Any suggestions?

lynlynkr 0 Posted June 2, 2008 Smart breath is a 2 bottle mouthwash product that is great. It is a wallmart (top shelf). It leave a funny littl taste in your mouth, but no bad breath.
sistasassy 6 Posted June 2, 2008 If you are eating mainly Protein and very very few carbs it may be that you are in ketosis. That will cause a change in your breath. The good thing about it is that it does pass in a few months. That is my opinion from reading a post on another board. That is not fact though. I would keep the mouthwash handy for a while. new_jewel 1 Posted June 2, 2008 i was told by my dr that some people (like myself) tend to get bad breath more than usual when shedding pounds
Dora 0 Posted June 2, 2008 I read elsewhere that mouthwash can dry out your mouth and ultimately lead to more bad breath. The doctor in this article suggested drinking tea.

BandedButterfly 0 Posted June 2, 2008 Hello. My two week pre surg diet was Optifast shakes only. And my breath didnt smell too good either. I blammed it on the shakes. I am on full liquid....almost 3 weeks post op and its not there anymore. As far as ketosis.. that happens when you have sugar spilling into the urine and the breath will have a sweet smell to it. Not saying it will smell like cherries...but it will smell sweet. I am familiar with it because I have had type 1 diabetes since 5. I hope this helps!!!! danalou 0 Posted June 3, 2008 My doc said that it was mainly a problem of swallowing the gum. If that happened, you're back to surgery. I've heard that gum is an appetite stimulant though.
