It's coming out:

My band is coming out. My port incision has never healed. I had my surgery on March 8, 2008 and my incision is still draining. Body is rejecting port so says dr... My surgeon wants to either replace the port or do a VSG. I don't want anymore surgery. I am a self-pay who had surgery done in Mexico. I don't want to go back to Mexico but, it seems thats the only place I can afford at about 4000.00 including aifare.

I have a date. It is coming out on 6-10-08. I am sad but, won't be rebanded. May be down the road I might try the sleeve.

Me too! June 12, next Thursday, and I can't wait! The port kills me - it's tight up against my belly button, and there are a thousand nerves in there that hurt so much sometimes I go to bed and lie on my back and cry. And I bang it on the sink, the stove, the laundry, the tub, the lawnmower handle, the snow shovel handle... Dr. says eventually the nerves in that area will all die and I won't feel it anymore! What kind of a solution is that? It's been 10 months already - 10 months I regret more than any other stupid thing I've ever done in my life.

Winterwish, is your only issue with the port?

Good luck to you, and a speedy return to health.

I'm sorry I didn't read this thread sooner, you just might have waited a bit longer with the band. I have a friend who was banded 4 years ago, and just like you, had problems with the port. She had her port wound open for about 2 months. It seems like quite a few people are allergic to the material the port is made of, so they removed her port for about a year, then they replaced it with another port that was made from a different material, and now she's doing great.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
