4 weeks post op - abdominal muscle pain

Recommended Posts

I am 4 weeks post-op and last Thursday I noticed a slight tenderness near the incision of the port area. It was a dull feeling on the left side and then on Friday the tenderness went to the right side, then subsided. And now it hurts so much more back on the left side that when I woke up this morning I could not sit up and had to take small baby breaths. I called my husband into the bedroom and told him to call the center for the doc on call. The doc called and spoke to my husband who then asked if I had any swelling, which I don't; if I had any redness in the area where the pain is, and I don't. But when I push down slightly on the left side and pain is excruciating and when I sit up it hurts like hell. The doc said that it could be a hernia, to take some tylenol and see if it helps. Tylenol took the edge off, as well as the heat pad, but the pain is back. But when I spoke to my mother I was told that hernias often display a bulge, which I do not have. What in the world could be causing this much pain?? DId I tear scar tissue? Or has my port slipped out? How does a person know if its the port moving around? When I push down I don't feel any kind of port. I still have no idea where its located.

I plan to call the office in the morning to get an appointment. I just don't understand why this came on so suddenly. I am scared.

Anybody else experiencing this?? :P

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
