Found a great new aid to keeping track of food

Recommended Posts

Wow, I hit on a website today that I have joined and I'm passing it on.

myfooddiary.com

I'm not good at writing it all down so I was just looking for a way to report in. This site requires some attention and work up front (I've been playing with it all day) but what you get is exactly how much Protein, calories and everything else including Water in a daily report. They give you the number of calories to maintain and to lose what you wish to lose each week. It's the best one I've seen.

The rub is that it's not free. It's $9 per week, but you have 5 days to withdraw and then it's weekly.....not a long-term committment.

If you put everything in, you'll get a true snapshot. It has over 50,00 food items in the database or you add your own. So I could look up the brand of crackers I'm allowed (Ah-Mak) and all I do is click it and it automatically puts in the nutritional data for me. You don't need the Protein counter or anything. When I go back to work, I'll either do it at the office, or send myself an email with what I've eaten.

Also adds in exercise into the mix. Even housework.

This is also good for the dietician to see how much protein, carbs, calories in an acurate format.

Anyway, I'm enjoying it - didn't know if people knew about it.

I never even looked here! HAH.

I'm going to take a look, but so far, I really like the site I found. If they're similar enough though......................

I like thedailyplate.com

It is a similar site as myfooddiary.com, but it is free. You can pay for a fancier upgrade, but it keeps track of my food; calories, Protein, fat, etc as well as exercise, my measurements and even has a diary feature. I used to use fitday.com, but it didn't have the bells and whistles that thedailyplate has.

I find that logging is essential for me. If I don't log my food I'm not as accountable and don't do as well.

thanks so much for the site. Yup, free is better. I'm going to take a look.

I just had a fill and I'm very restricted, so I'm not using anything for a few days. Can't eat much at all and not very hungry.

You're welcome. I hope you are doing well with your restriction. I'm envious and haven't felt one since the week after my surgery - lol...I'm waiting for my flipped port to be corrected. They've put me off until 6/13. Docs going to do a fill then. Whoohoo! I'm running out of patience though. - LOL

it's weird. I feel like I'm back at square one but it's tougher somehow. Happily, some good folks from here answered all my questions and I guess I just have to be patient. I have some sensations when I try to drink but once I know it's common, I'm fine. My brother-in-law had the surgery and from the beginning, was able to eat most things and has lost 118 pounds and has a broad range of foods. I seem to be moving slower but I'm hoping to get there as well. That's what the goal is, right. Eat like a normal person.

Just shout when you get you're first fill.....I want to hear if you're experience is like mine. And don't worry. You'll get there. I'll get there. We're doing great!

Leslie -

Thanks for the tip on mydailyplate.com. I have been doing fitday for a couple of months, but checked out mydailyplate. It seemed like a hassle at first to move to another site, but I am very impressed with their food database. I'm still trying to figure everything out. I was getting irritated with fitday so your suggestion couldn't have come at a better time. Sorry to hear about your flipped port. I hope it all goes smoothly and you'll be ready to roll again in no time. Good luck.

I had my 2nd fill a week ago. This time was kind of weird. At first, not a whole lot of restriction, but as the week has gone on I feel more restricted. I'm sure I'll loose it again in a few days, so I'm a happy camper for now. I go for #3 in three weeks. I'm hoping and praying that it will be the one that lasts longer than 7-10 days. I had gained a couple of pounds two weeks ago. I weigh in tomorrow and hope it's back off. Good luck!!

Hope so for you as well. I'm doing well. I feel everything go down. Water still is the most uncomfortable and I still find that weird. But I do it. I've had whole wheat bread, and chicken, and several different veggies. I thought I ate a lot at a dinner we had last evening, but then I realized, it was the first time I've had a whole bunch of different things on my plate.....as opposed to just a Protein. I also realized that I had the same amount of food on my plate as two of my thin friends who were eating over. That was so cool.

Now if I can just lose the gas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
