Recommended Posts

Does anyone know why we arnt't supposed to drink coffee with caffeine? Im trying to get used to Decaf but it has not been easy. I knew I was going to make sacrafices after LB however I am having a tough time especially because my work day starts at 6am and my morning commute with my coffee is just not the same.:P

Caffeine makes you hungry faster than normal. The reason to not have it is to help you not eat as much.

my understanding is the Decaf will also help you heal quicker nutritionist says you can have a cup of regular as long as you keep a diary of what you are actually eating---caffeine makes you want to keep moving --- including eating depends on how it effects you I finally got used to it and now I don't care for reg. coffee hmmm

my day starts early too and it can be an adjustment you will get through

Did your Dr. say that you couldn't drink coffee? My Dr. doesn't allow it for a brief period of time and then there is no problem. I was a very heavy coffee drinker...from 7am until 11pm. It was a bit difficult to cut it out of my diet for a while but I was in so much discomfort after the surgery that the pain meds allowed me to get through the withdrawls without me knowing it. I drank coffee up until the day before my surgery and had absolutely no problem not drinking it afterwards.

There is no indication that caffeine makes your hungrier faster. In fact, caffeine is often the key ingredient in diet pills. Caffeine IS a diuretic and can lead to people not drinking enough Water which might lead to dehydration.

my dietitian made a big deal out of no caffine. when i couldn't take it anymore i asked my surgeon if i could have caffine and she said yes, just dont over due it because it is a diuretic and she doesnt want me to dehydrate. thats what ive been doing and no problems.

re: "I was a very heavy coffee drinker...from 7am until 11pm."

I hope that was BLACK and not with all the condiments!!!

re: "sacrifice".... I have always considered the Band a CHOICE....and what I have 'sacrificed' is only the means and behaviors that kept me Morbidly Obese for so many decades.

I wasn't interested in coffee postOp for weeks and weeks....

I do enjoy it now, daily.....'regular' not the other kind.

No...not all of the Condiments but there were still a lot of empty calories in there that I wasn't thinking of at the time. You know...sometimes I would sneak a packet of hot chocolate or half and half but I always used the splenda. Overall I feel healthier NOT have the addiction and just being able to have a cup of coffee when I want a cup of coffee. I hope to keep it up. However, during the school year my schedule is so crazy that I find myself gravitating to it as a crutch for not eating. Alas...just another part of me that needs to be regulated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
