What Can I Eat Post Op?

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping to have Lap Band surgery sometime this summer and I'm wondering what I will be able to eat out after surgery. After reading your experience Bob, now I'm really concerned. I go to several conferences each year where we are at a location not close to anything and you must eat what they offer. Will I need to take Protein Shakes with me for the whole weekend? Thanks for any info.

One thing I've definitely learned from this site is that every doctor is different. For 6 weeks after surgery, I was on liquids (and that seems pretty normal). That included low fat/sodium Soups (tomato Soup, cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, etc.), sugar fee pudding, sugar free Jello, Protein Drinks. Once through the 6 weeks of liquids, the doctor had me food process (to consistency of cole slaw) lean chicken and fish, vegetables, and certain fruits. After those two weeks, I eat lean Protein (fish, chicken, lean beef/pork), certain fruits, certain vegetables. Alot of people on this site say they eat just about everything they eat before...just smaller portions. I also have a lot of work events that I go to, and I can almost always find something that will work for me. I do carry protein supplement with me that I can add to Water in case nothing works. I hope this helped!

Banded on Wednesday, I went to a Grad Party today with tons of food  and I thought it was REALLY going to be hard - BUT GUESS WHAT - I had a Protein Shake before we left the house and I was totally full and nothing bothered me. I was proud of myself.:P

I'm on cream Soups, Protein Shakes, Jello, pudding, even cream of wheat and grits for 2 weeks then I get to go to mushie food for 2 weeks then start small amounts of regular food.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
