Discomfort and gas after 5 weeks- nervous

Recommended Posts

Hi- I've had gas all along. My belly fills up and sounds like a concert or a tornado- especially at night. I've been told it can be because chewing slowly brings more air into the stomach.

Also, just today I'm having some discomfort along the band tubing- you know the spot- above above the port by a few inches on the left side. It's a bit of a sticking pain. Not awful and not all the time. I don't know if it's gas or if it's still part of healing and scar tissue, or if I moved the wrong way and hurt myself a bit. After almost 6 weeks I should be okay.

Of course I'm concerned that something has gone amiss and the band has gone wrong or something. I have been told that if that happens, and it is unusual, the pain is intense or one vomits, etc.

So, make me feel better. Someone tell me I'm having a bad gas day, or that they've had similar discomfort along the way.

Thanks,

Gwenn

I found out that I am very sensitive to artificial sweeteners. I know it sounds odd, but some of the side effects are gas, loud tummy noises, and extreme bloating. Perhaps you too are sensitive to artificial sweeteners. I didn't notice pre-banding because I only used sugar. Since being banded, I usually only drink Water and 1/4 to a 1/2 cup of juice for my meds. Talk to you doc and see what he says. I hope this helps. Good luck and best wishes to you and yours!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
