I've been trying to post all morning, but since this is an official invitation, maybe it will work this time.

This forum looks like just the place I need to be. I'm 61, and I had the band on Sept. 23. I've felt like I was just out here on my own since I don't return to the doctor until November 6. I've already seen others addressing my same issues and concerns, and it is great to know that I am "normal" and am not on the road to failure, again.:smile2:

I tried the heating pad this afternoon and it worked well...lol until I had a hot flash and got to hot.

Feeling much better this afternoon...might even get froggy and eat some Jello. I'm trying my best to get in 46 oz of Water but dang, can only have 1 oz every five min. I'm down to pain meds twice a day and not every 4 hours like prescribed, I have one more day on the antibiotics and haven't needed the regulan at all as my stomach has been fine.

How many days are we to use the breathing thing? Does anyone remember?

where is everyone else that got banded Friday? I know LS and I aren't the only ones.

Hey Ara,

I was wondering how you were doing!? The breathing thing was for one week, for me that is. Sounds like you are doing very well, I'm glad to hear it. Bev is right the heating pad did work and I found walking for 15 mins every hour also helped alot.

Keep up the good work!

Ann

Hi Reba723,

Welcome to the thread. Sometimes it is just helpful to know someone out there is going thru the same things you are. Whenever I get the blues, I usually come to the board and I feel better. I hope you are doing well with your band. I am a Sept band also...Sept 2007 that is. I am losing rather slowly and have hit a spot where I am really struggling to lose at all. Thing is, I am just happy not to be gaining anymore. If you have questions...someone on here has probably already been there and is welling to help you. Let us know how you are doing..ok?

Ara...how are you doing now?? Things starting to get a little better? Take Care...bev

Hi, BeverlyJane! Thanks for replying. I've been reading off and on all day. Everytime I look back at the forum topics, I see something else that hits home with me. I know exactly what you mean about not gaining as opposed to actually losing. For the last 5 years I have bounced back and forth between 219 and 242. This shows me that I can pretty well maintain, I just want to get to a more healthy weight before I do it. Just before my surgery, I was back at 240. Now I'm back at 228 after bouncing around 230 for about a week. At least I'm headed in the right direction. I do worry, though, that I don't seem to have trouble eating much of anything as long as I chew it to mush. That is NOT a good thing for me.

I'm doing much better, very little pain if any, heartburn is come and go but the nexium and pepcid ac help tons. My problem is I'm getting hungry...is this normal? I'm not OMG starving but I am feeling hunger pains now and again. Also I'm able to eat more, haven't allowed myself more than a cup and I know I'm still getting below 1200 easy but it has me worried since I don't go back for a fill until almost mid Nov.

Ara when you eat when are feeling hungry do you fell full fast? I was hungry too but it didnt take much to make the feeling go away. Also drink when you fell hubgry it does help a lot. What are you eating? I know I was eating tuna salad and egg salad. riccota cheese since I dont like cottage cheese very much mixed with a little Tomato sauce. Maybe you are not getting enough protien in. Are you having any protien shakes? They will help you feel full. Glad you are doing well!

Hi Reba, Welcome to this thread! I have a 10cc band and I have about 2 1/4 cc's in it. I love when I first get a fill I cant eat anything! I know its not supposed to be like that, but thats when I get to lose more then 1 pound a week lol. Right now if I cut it up tiny and eat slow I can eat pretty much anything a a good amount of it. I am trying to hold out for a fill until Jan so it can go towards my deductable for next yr since my Dr doesnt take my ins so he is out of network and I have to pay 325 for the fill. I really would like a fill before the holidays so I can't eat too much bad stuff. Anyway nice to meet you and good luck to you.

Hi Reba,

Don't worry about being hungry right now. You just need to worry about healing and getting well at this point. Once you get better and get a fill the weight will start to go down. I actually gained like eight pounds during this time, but lost nine the next month. I think you will do well once you start to get fills. You seem to have the will power, as you have lost weight before and been able to maintain. I will be very happy when I actually get to the weight you are at now. So, take care...and hang in there.

Hi Ara,

So glad to hear you are feeling better. It is kinda rough those first few days and actually for me, the first couple of weeks took a toll. I was on the liquid diet two weeks before surgery and then Clear Liquids for two weeks after the surgery. I was beginning to think I would never eat again..lol. I had help from a friend I found on the boards and it is the only way I think I made it thru. I had PM'd her because she lived in the same area as me. It was the best thing I ever did. I know it doesn't seem like it would be all that much help, but her sense of humor pulled me thru. Please don't hesitate to use the help that is here. Take Care and good luck....bev

Hello, Ann and Beverly Jane! You have both made me feel a lot better. Nothing that I read or was told prior to the surgery prepared me for some of the experiences I'm having now, so I was convinced that somehow I was weird or doomed to failure. I can't tell you how much this website is helping me!

Beverly Jane, I see that I don't weigh as much as some here, but, at age 61, I have been fighting obesity for 55 years so maybe that helps to even things out. I'm a person who sets goals and then achieves them. This is one of very few that I have been unable to conquer. In spite of all that, it doesn't matter what I do or achieve, when people see those pounds....well, you know how they act. We're all in this together, and I'm glad I've found some friends to go through it with me.

I'm fast counting down that BMI too Froggie, when I first had the surgery I was 68.7 and I'm down to like 62.5 now, 33 lbs gone and I can't wait for another 33 lbs to be gone!

Hey Froggi,

I guess I thought that this thread was for those whose journey started with a bmi of over 60. I started with a bmi of 68.2, but am at 55.8 right now. I hope that doesn't disqualify me from this thread...lol I remember when you started the thread. I was really glad to have someone who knew what I had been going through. I may be below 60 now, but I think I will always feel more connected to those making the same journey as myself. Take Care and Good Luck....bev

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
