I am only a week and a day post op. And i'm on full liquids right now. My will power has been faltering. Yesterday i gave in an had a scrambled egg, which i'm not supposed to do til next week. And tonight i had a small piece of a chicken and cheese hot sandwhich on a tortilla bread. I've had no ill effects either time. I'm trying my hardest but i'm only human. Does anyone know how bad it is for my stomache that i caved in an ate such things? am i really hurting myself even though i feel fine? Has anyone "cheated" like i have? or am i the only one with crappy willpower.

It is so important that you follow your doctors rules post-op. I know it is tough, we have all been through it. You may not feel any effects right now, but think about what problems you may be causing yourself long term. By eating sooner than you should, you are making your stomach have to work harder to digest that food. You are not giving your stomach time to heal and the adhesions time to properly seal the band in place.

You have gone through so much to get the band, why sabotage it now? Please, go back to your prescribed diet, or at least contact your doctor and tell them you are struggling and see what they suggest.

I totally feel you. I was banded last Tuesday and I am REALLY struggling. For the most part, the surgery has been fine, however, it seems as if I am always hungry and nothing is filling enough. I did break down and have a milkshake. Bad mistake. The first time, I bought one from Burger King. Nothing happened. Then today I went to the mall and purchased a shake from the ice-cream shop and gulped it down. I had the worse choking feeling. The one thing it did do was get me back on the right track. As I was walking around the mall, which helped with the choking feeling, I began looking at all of the clothes and thinking to myself, I am going to be able to wear these one day. Just try and think about the bigger picture.

Thank you all for your help. I didn't realise that the stomache was actually stiched to the band. And i figured since i was chewing the food to a near mush that it wasn't any different than yogurt and such lol... i know, always try and come up with the reasoning even though i know its wrong. I have til friday to be on full liquids and then the mushy stage should be easier for me.

The weekends are hard cause i'm home with family and they cook and i can smell good things all day... when i'm at work its easier.. keeps my mind off things.

Hello! I am two months post-op and I went through the same thing. I won't tell you to stick to the diet because I didn't, but I strongly suggest it. Eating now won't hurt your stomache itself, but if something does get stuck and you vomit, you can dislodge the band (or so the doctor told me) because you are not healed yet. I didn't feel any restriction either until I ate something too big and too fast (sushi) and had to throw it up. If you absolutely must eat, stick with high-protein, low fat/sugar, and EAT SLOWLY with LITTLE BITES!! It is miserable and I feel for you, but remember that it isn't forever. Also, I gained weight right after surgery because of the same problem and I felt even worse about myself than I did before surgery. That was even harder on me than the hunger and need for food. Good Luck! Call a friend to take you away from food if you need to.

I'm struggling with the same thing. The important thing is not to beat yourself up about what you've already done (no matter what people say) and try your best to stick to the liquids from here on out. I was worried about my solid food dabbles post-op and called a nurse who recommended I go back the liquids but she didn't sound nearly as severe as some of the post here might. Of course it's always best to stick to doctor's reccomendations but being human you will slip up. Just do your best to bounce back and don't worry about what's in the past.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
