So, I am just wondering if there are any of you out there shaped like me. I want to get a realistic understanding of the potential for my success.

I am 5 foot 11 inches. I started out at 375 & am now at 335, so a weight anywhere in between would be good & I am female.

Let me know how you have done so far. I will be banded on June 17th.

I dont know about body shape but I was similar to your height and weight stats at surgery. I'm 6"1" and was 344lbs at surgery.

There are some tall bandsters closer to goal that myself. Like BooBooKitty and Rainer.

I'm also 5'11 and just got my surgery date for July 7th. I'll be interested to watch your progression with my own. Good luck to both of us!

The good news is that the bigger you are the faster you will lose. I am "only" 5'9" and I lost over 100 lbs. in just about nine months. The larger underlying bone, tissue, etc. in a tall person causes you to burn more calories just breathing. Once you're banded, eating right, and exercising, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how fast the weight will come off. Good luck!

Chocolate Snaps, your weight loss ticker isn't current. I almost lost hope for a minute there. But then I noticed on your stats your current weight.

Nope it is current. BUT that ticker isnt for my overall weight lost, it is for my goal of losing 100lbs this year. I am down a total of 75lbs in 8 months. Pretty freaking sweet!

Hello,

I am 6ft tall and started at 338. I am down 114 lbs in 11 months and currently weigh 224...well, actually, this morning I am 226...but i got my period...so I have to count it as still 224.

Right now I am between an 18 and a 14...it depends on the material and brand. I have a very large hunk of skin on the front of my belly...but I had twins (very large twins 9.4 and 8.3lbs) just two and a half years ago..so some of that is probably because of them...stinkers!!!

Any other questions, please feel free to ask!

Best of luck in your journey!!!

Rain

Hi Shome, I am 5'8" tall and started at 320. I am at 215 right now. Weight Watchers has my goal at 165. My doctor and I originally said 185 but my goal was size 16 which I am in now. I would like to lose another 15 lbs. I had a Tummy Tuck at 220.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
