Yeah Frangi! You sound so good for having just had surgery. I'd never know from your writing that you're on drugs, lol. I hope you had a good, restful night. Can't wait to hear about your doctor's appointment today.

Karey, I can't understand anyone being so rude about any kind of upcoming surgery. I know people don't "get" our situation, but they should keep their mouths shut. I won't be telling anyone except those who need to know (the family) and I wouldn't tell them if I didn't have to, LOL.

Yup, I totally agree! I've thought about it and I think that my friend was projecting her own fears about surgery onto me, along with some judgementalness of course!

Frangi -

I am so glad everything is going so well! What books are you listening to?

Hi Jody,

Right now I'm listening to "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini -- which is excellent!!!! I also have "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by the same author downloaded, which I will probably listen to next.

Frangi: So glad to hear the voice of reason here! You're right that was a tactless thing to say. I'm not telling anyone that I don't need to from now on. It's difficult for people who haven't walked in our shoes to understand and I'm tired of trying to explain it! Do you have a good website for downloading audiobooks? I'm so happy for you and hope you're happy with the unveiling tomorrow. I admire your independence and vision. Does the nurse come to help you or are you able to do everything for yourself?

Hi Karey,

I only hired the nurse to pick me up from the hospital on that first day. I had it set up to where, I could have a nurse come in for as many days/hours as I needed, but I found that I really didn't need any additional help.

The website that I currently use to purchase my audio books is Audible.com

I like the selection and their user-friendly website. You can also simply purchase books on CD and download them directly to your iPod (and can probably do the same with any audio books you borrow from the library as well)

If you use Audible and see yourself purchasing several books, their pre-paid plans are the best deal. I have the Platinum plan, which works out to something like $7.50 per title.

Yeah Frangi! You sound so good for having just had surgery. I hope you had a good, restful night. Can't wait to hear about your doctor's appointment today.

Thanks Becky! I feel just fine and today the pain and soreness really isn't very bad at all, but I have been doing a lot of walking.

In fact I was feeling antsy again last night so I went up to the lovely, open-air, mall near my hotel and walked around (Love that place -- it's brand new, nicely laid out and has some great stores!!!). It's very soothing on my legs to be walking. It seems like what's causing most of the pain is the Lipo, but when I'm up and walking I hardly feel any soreness at all. In turn, I think all of this movement is speeding up the healing process.

Thanks for the tip on the audio books! I will check it out. Also, going to file away, walking as an important healing tip. Sounds like your doing great. Are you eating out while walking around the mall area or do you not have an appetite?

Hi Frangi -

Thanks for the info on the books. I will definitely check them out. Sounds like a great stress reliever at work also. You are truly a Superwoman when it comes to these surgeries!!

Glad you are doing so well. Did you find anyone for a fill yet?

Hi Everyone!

Well, I had my first post-op appointment and it went great!!!! The derrière is very swollen and looks HUGE to me, but the shape is fabulous (even if I do say so myself ).

That said, I do need the swelling to go down to be truly happy with it. As much as I admire the very lovely and stylish JLo, I have never envied her backside the way the rest of the world seems to. I guess fighting a long and hard battle with my weight has given me a strong aversion to big booties that will probably never leave me.......

So, I can't say I'm happy just yet -- however, the shape is way beyond what I ever could have imagined. It is just perfect! My Dr. is a true master!!!!

How he managed to do such a wonderful job I do not know, because he told me that he ended up having a bit of hard time with my backside. He couldn't take the flaps from the usual place because there wasn't enough fat and skin there, so he had to come up with a "Plan B" and take the flaps from along the sides, which apparently is not ideal.

Shalee thanks for the lovely compliment!!!!:thumbup::tt2:

Karey, I have a microwave and a refrigerator here at my hotel so I stocked up on groceries before surgery and I'm able to fix myself some meals.

I must say that this time around, I am ravenously hungry. I'm allowing myself to eat more, because I figure this is my body's way of telling me what it needs to heal -- and I'm not too concerned about gaining weight because I'm still eating pretty healthy foods. Yesterday, I proably took in about 1500 - 2000 calories. Today the hunger has leveled off a bit so I'm probably at around 1000 so far and will probably be at 1300 - 1500 by the time I have dinner (which I plan to do very soon here).

Well, the Dr. stressed again today about sitting directly on the behind, so I'm kneeling on the floor as I type this and it's getting a bit uncomfortable now.

I will check back in later or in the morning!

Have a great night everyone!!!!:smile::tt1:

Hi Jody,

We must have been posting at the same time. Thanks!!!

I have not found a fill Dr. yet. I forgot to ask my PS about this today. I want to find someone because I would like to have a small fill for the road......

Frangi my dear, you are a ROCK STAR!!!!!! How you do it is just beyond me.... but I am happy to hear that you are doing so incredibly well! (OK, I can't actually believe I'm saying this....) I can't wait to see your new butt! Even through the swelling I bet it looks fantastic. You chose very wisely in doctor selection and it sounds like it has completely paid off!

Next time you consider books I HIGHLY recommend the Women's Murder Mystery series by James Patterson.... love those!! They are so good and popular I would imagine they come on tape.

Happy shopping and walking and prayers that you continue to heal so miraculously well

Good morning ladies!

Frangi, it is so encouraging to hear once again how well you are doing. It gives all of us confidence that we can endure whatever is necessary to complete our personal journey.

How are you sleeping? Do you have to lay on your stomach?

I think the fact that you have a good appetite is an excellent sign. Your body is burning lots of calories as you heal!

I read The Kite Runner this summer and really enjoyed it. No more pleasure reading for me though since school has started back. I'm drowning in education and child development textbooks!

Both of my sons are home for the long weekend so I'm very happy and busy this Labor Day holiday. I hope you all have a great weekend!

It was great Jody! I don't get to have them both home at the same time very often anymore so it was just wonderful. They are both really proud of me, mainly because I've become so dedicated to exercise. I showed them my before and after picture and they were shocked. They say that they don't remember me being that large. I guess love is blind.

It sure has been quiet on this thread. Frangi, I hope you have been resting, relaxing, and maybe enjoying a few Labor Day Sales! Please check in and let us know how you're doing. How long will you be staying in Miami this time? I hope the next hurricane (Hannah, I think) slides right on by Florida. We expect Gustav to bring a lot of rain our way starting tomorrow.

Karey, I bet you had a busy holiday with the family. Are you still beginning to feel better?

Frangi,

Just wondering how your are doing. I feel you're pain (hope your not having any!) How do you keep from sitting on your backside? I've found the pain does change to a strange feeling of sitting on something that isn't there. It's an odd feeling. How about you?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
