Everybody's different, I guess. I absolutely will not eat popcorn again. After eating a handfull the other night, I had a horrible experience. I did not eat a lot (I don't think) but it refused to go down. Lasted hours. Never again...

Corn on the cob is one of my favorite foods. Pre band eating 4 ears was not uncommon. Butter and all. Sometimes even the Mexican style. Roasted on the grill in shucks, with butter, sour cream AND mayo with a touch of salt and chili powder. Oh my God I can't believe I used to eat that! cholesterol nightmare, not to mention the calories. Now I'm very happy with a half ear, no butter. Jack is correct. FRESH and lightly steamed, is the only way to go. I've had two fills and can still eat it. popcorn however is another storey. I was terrified to try for months, then did just recently. The little skins seemed to be the problem. I ate about two bites and it didn't set right so I stopped. Not worth it. Again, Jack is correct. without butter it tasted like styrofoam anyway. No big loss.

I have no problem with corn on the cob either - and agree - half an ear is plenty. Aubrie - not to get too gross, but when I had that awfull experience with popcorn this week, what finally happened (after a long, uncomfortable time) was I finally pb'd all of those little skins - the rest went through. It was weird and again, will never eat it again. Frankly, I will not miss it either.

Absolute bollocks...everyone is different, and therefore reacts differently to all foods. I've been eating popcorn with no problems at all after 6 months post-op.

Whats the best way to get stuck food to go down? Somebody said drink warm pineapple juice or maybe it was grapefruit-- anyway I got approved today for my surgery. I have to meet with the dietician Thursday and get my surgery date. The doctor just told me again that he hopes he can do it thru all the scar tissue. So keep your fingers crossed for me.:confused2:

The best way I've found is to drink a large amount of Water which will usually initiate a 'progressive burp' and the food will come back up.

Feel free to PM me if you need to discuss anything in private.

Take care,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
