Hello not sure where to start

Recommended Posts

Just want to say hello to everyone. I am new here, I do not have a surgery date yet. I am still doing all my testing. just went to cardiologist today and still have a bit left to do. Dr. Geiss from Syosset will be my surgeon. I have been gathering info along the way; trying to find things I can do while I am waiting, but it is so much that I sometimes get overwhelmed. if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

There is a lot of information on this site. Feel free to ask questions and pick people's brains!

I'd also start your pre-op diet or a modified version of it. Try not to get the "last supper" syndrome and gain weight before your surgery, which you'll just have to lose after surgery.

Start exercising now (if you're not already). Get used to eating slowly, sipping Water and taking small bites. Start incorporating SF Jell-O, pudding and low-cal yogurt into your eating habits now.

Do research on shake recipes and liquid diets.

Congratulations on taking the first step towards a healthier future!

Lovy,

Welcome to LBT. This is a really good place for information and support.

I know the process can seem long and tedious, but I guess they have a good reason for making us jump through all their hoops.

I think EricaLyn was right on the money with what she said. My emphasis would be on exercise. Joining a gym worked best for me. Working out did two things for me. First, it made the surgery so much easier. I didn't need pain meds afterwards, and I had so much energy that I could have walked home from the hospital. I'm not exaggerating. Second, in addition to the weight loss and appetite loss, my bloodwork became normal. I had been struggling with high blood sugar, high triglycerides, low HDL (good) cholesterol, high LDL (bad) cholesterol, and other things. I started out with 20 minutes on a treadmill 3 times a week in January. By my surgery date in April, I was doing an hour on the treadmill plus weight training 4 days a week. It was like a miracle. Now I'm hooked. I've gone from being a couch potato to being a gym junkie.

Anyways, good for you for what you're doing. I hope the wait is tolerable for you. Good luck, and let us know what's happening, ok?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
