Question About Feeling Full

Recommended Posts

I was banded just two days ago, May 28th. I'm able to keep everything down, but I'm noticing that after one or two tiny sips of my Water or Protein Drinks, I full so full that I feel sick. About a minute goes by, and the sick feeling goes away and then I can drink another sip or two. It goes on this way no matter when or what I'm drinking. Is this normal?? I know the point of the band is to feel full and restricted, but I didn't think a few sips of liquid would do that.

I was going to call my Dr's office, but they closed early today, and you guys here are so helpful!

HI,

I would call them just to make sure everything is okay but I felt sick after I drank a little two days after surgery too. Enjoy this very short time when you don't feel like eating/drinking. You're all swollen from the surgery. IT goes away fast.

I have a friend that was banded at Christmas and she has had 3 fills, but is not really at good restriction. In the past week, she has not been able to eat anything (or drink) because she feels so full. She called the Dr. yesterday and he told her she could have a mucus plug. I have never heard of this (other than with pregnancy), but apparently, all this allergy/sinus stuff that is going around can cause your pouch to get clogged with mucus? He has her taking Mucinex for a couple of days, and if it does not get better, he says she will need an unfill to allow the mucus to pass. Do you have problems with allergies and/or sinus? Maybe this could be happening to you?

If you sip, feel full, then gurgle & feel okay, this is just the Fluid slowly passing through the band into your stomach. Take smaller sips.

I know what you mean I was getting the same feeling - I even kinda hurt when drinking. The nurse said I was drinking to fast, so I did slow down but today I have been able to drink with no problems. I have also had pudding and yogurt with no problems.

Good Luck!

You were just banded 2 days ago! This is clearly why you are feeling the effects of being full after a sip or two. You are so swollen inside that anything is going to seem extreme - know what I mean? Trust me - embrace the fullness because after a few weeks, the restriction goes away and the hunger and feeling that you can eat anything comes back before your first fill - which is where I'm at. I'd be much happier having restriction than none, but again - you're body just went thru major stuff and it takes time. With every passing day you will feel better.

Good luck ~ you're gonna do great! :w00t:

Sipping all day long is key. You will get your nutrition in that way and you will not feel as full. That is what I would do.

I am having the same issues after being banded on 5/28/2008. I have this "way to full" feeling when I sip anything but Clear Liquids. I called my surgeon's office and they said I could stay on clears until I felt better. They also mentioned the swelling issue. I will follow-up with them on Monday. So I am walking, sipping clears and planning on advancing my diet soon but for right now I don't care because I am not hungry at all.

When I first took sips I noticed that as soon as I stood up and walk a few feets that it seemed to go down (somewhere.)

In fact today was my first fill -- surgery was 4/14 -- and I was sitting on table in doctor's office. Felt a little full after sipping Water. No concern. Stood up to leave & felt it go down.

It almost felt like it was on a bubble and by slight movement the bubble burst & it went where it was supposed.

Try walking and see if your new "baby belly" needs to be settled.

G'luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
