Funny, Embarrassing, Humiliating or Painful?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to share something that happened to me today.

I had my first PB in over a year. I was out visiting retirement communities for my inlaws. ONe of the facilities invited my husband and I to lunch. On the menu was chicken, chicken and chicken. Now I normally dont have a problem with chicken. I was talking and I swallowed a piece of chicken that was too big. At first, I thought it was going to go through. Within 10 minutes, I had a golfball feeling. Then it progressed to very painful. So I finallly gave in and went to the ladies room.

There was a little old lady with her walker in the bathroom. She must have been about 80 or so. She took one look at me and said, "Are you alright honey?" SO I told her with my eyes tearing that I got a piece of chicken stuck in my throat and it wasnt going down. She proceeded to tell me about some throat massage therapies that apparently work for her cause she has problems with achalasia of the esophagus. I am listening, but by this time I am turning green. I really wanted to throw up, but she was standing there and I felt uncomfortable retching over the toilet with someone else in the room. FInally, I just gave up and ran into the toilet and started spitting up slime. It progressed to full blown vomiting for a few minutes. It was awful. I dont PB often, but this was the retching kind of vomit and it really scared me. After finishing, I immediately felt better and came out of the stall. THe little old lady was still standing there and wanted to know if I was alone or if someone else were here with me. I assured her I was OK.

The irony was I was in an assisted living facility and a senior with her walker is asking ME if I was OK.! It wasnt funny when it was happening today, but now I think it is hilarious. I am on liquids for the rest of the day

So share with me, what is your funniest or embarrassing, humiliating or most painful PB experience since you have been banded?

I am pretty sure not too long ago I was doling out advice that usually when a PB is coming on, most people have enough time to go to a public restroom to resolve the issue.... Never expected to have an audience in there tho...

WOW at least you had access to the bathroom. I really need to stay away from chicken it seems that is usually what makes me PB.

When we went to visit my Aunt in Tahoka last month they made a big ole BB for us well here I am eating just the tinest of what they had when all of a sudden I felt the tightness in my chest I just knew that I had to go to the bathroom and at the same time my cousin bless his heart is putting down desert in front of me a big cone and icecream topped with fruit I told him I was to full at the same time thinking I needed the bathroom so I excused myself no sooner shut the door and up it came just made it to the toilet. Anyway after that I was full no longer and when I got back to the table Ice Cream counted as liquid since it was melting.

Oh Babs... actually I have too many Funny, Embarrassing, Humiliating or Painful pb's to list any particular one. My favorites are the ones that you can predict and you have plenty of time to get to a safe place. The ones that are very humbling are those that just spring up on you... Im suprised that the older lady didnt ask if you were pregnant! :)

My first was when I was in Nashville visiting my friend. We had went to O'Charles restaurant and I had ordered my favorite meal before surgery RIBS. It was my first time eating it since my surgery. I didn't eat all of it and I ate slowly. I was the last one to finish but evidently I didn't eat as slow as I thought because as soon as the waitress came with the ticket I felt this incredible pain and my eyes started watering and it felt like I couldn't breath. My friend was asking me if I was okay but I couldn't talk so she was looking concerned and I was trying to pay the waitress as fast as I could so I could get out of their but it finally went down when I walked around a bit. My friend thought I was having a heart attack. It sure felt like it. I haven't touched ribs since.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
