stacnifer 0 Posted May 30, 2008 I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but I wanted to find out info on how to get the process started. So please tell me where to start. Thanks. And just a little info about me. I'm Stacee, 26 and married with two beautiful girls. I have been heavy most of my life with decent weight loss around the age of 18. I've gained it all back plus. I am at my heaviest now which is about 235-240lbs. It makes be so sick to even think about. I'm not comfortable in clothing and I really want the weight off! One4you2belike 0 Posted May 30, 2008 Do as much research as you can.. the lapband is only a tool and requires a life long commitment... Getting started - well call for a consultation - again this site provides many great doctors/clinics. My insurance denied my request because I did not meet the qualifications. My insurance has also become more strict in their requirements.. they want a year long doctor monitored diet, 5 year weight fluctuation, 100 lbs over weight and a BMI of 40.. needless to say I was a selfpay - so depending on whether or not you are paying yourself will also determine your next step... I would suggest research, call for a consult, start the insurance process and go from there... You could always call your insurance first to see what they require...good luck
sistasassy 6 Posted May 30, 2008 Read Read Read! That is what I did and that is how I made my decision. I am in the same weight range that you are and I am very unhealthy and unhappy. I just had my consultation with my surgeon and then took about 24 hours to REALLY decide between the RNY and the Lap Band and finally opted for the band. I have five children and at this point I am not ready to go for the more "dangerous" surgery. I would prefer to give the band a chance to help me. Remember, the thing I have read over and over is that the band will be a tool to help you lose. You play a big part in that process. Good luck on your decision!
